Any tips for controlling the speed of descent when going downhill in a manual wheelchair please?

(nearly came a cropper leaving my local cottage hospital yesterday - luckily had help, but ramp very steep and downhill all the way through the car park and into main road)

Wheelchair or bike gloves really help to protect your hands so you can keep a grip and control speed more going downhill. I got a lovely pink pair from a well known bike and car accessories shop starting with a H. xx
