Hello,
What item do you find invaluable and why?
For me its my rollator, it allows me to get around the house without fear of falling over and to get out to the shops. Such an obvious thing and it does not make me feel self conscious either.
Look forward to hearing,
Patrick
What’s left of a sharp mind and a vivid imagination:this is used for making and modifying things to help me.

It’s got to be this forum for me. I have found it a massive help talking to people who actually have ms and know what I am talking about, friends and family are okay but they really don’t know what it’s like…and of course there are some things you can’t talk about with them if you know what I mean! You can have shed loads of friends and family but still feel lonely with ms.

oh Sue that is so well put!

Rollator - top of my list
Mobility Scooter - when away from home, but needs partner to remove from boot of car and assemble
Electric wheelchair - for getting around outside my own front door
Bed thing that slides under mattress and sticks up (don’t know its name) - huge help with turning over in bed and getting out of bed
Helping hand grabber - for reaching and picking things up
Thought provoking question - made me realise how much I depend on gadgets!
Hi there, My mobility scooter as it gives me my independence for going out and about. I dont have a car nor does my husband so this is my means of getting around the shops and shopping for myself. Not got a lot of gadgets in my home which I could be finding useful as from the other posts and I am going to look into getting these sort of things. Can totally relate to these being so helpful in the home and making things that bit easier (and quicker !!!) xx Barbara
Hi, like others my wheelie is my legs.without it i`d be stuck in bed going stir crazy!
luv Pollx
Hi Patrick For me it’s my scooter, couldn’t do without it, like Poll it’s my legs!!! Linda x
Hello I agree with Sue, it’s reading this forum. I have only ever actually written on here 5 times (now), but reading everybody else’s posts and replies mean the absolute world to me. I feel like nobody else in my life actually understands me or ms, not my hubby, not my family and definitely not my boss or work place
It’s such a relief to feel I’m not as alone as I thought Jo xxx
Sorry to say but one of mine is the TV remote comtrol

It has to be my gym membership, which is absolutely essential. I like the idea that I have some control over general health and enjoy the benefits of doing something positive to improve/maintain my condition.
Mind you, this is not just any old gym, but one that specialises in helping people with medical conditions and constantly busy with GP referrals. Sadly it is now under threat as funding has been withdrawn for some unfathomable reason, because the place must save the NHS a fortune.
How ironic that the Olympic Stadium is a stones throw away and the Paralympic legacy didn’t even make it this far.

A book. Because when I am fit to do nothing I can escape into another world for a while.

My most useful item - has for the last 20yrs been my scooter. l have had a few - mostly bought second-hand. Last year l did ‘treat’ myself to a new Tramper - previous one was 11yrs old. With me- they have a hard life - l am not the ‘one careful lady owner - never raced nor rallied’ - quite the opposite. But now l must admit - after years of holding on to the furniture to get about indoors - l decided on a rollator. l borrowed one from my neighbour - a three wheeler. Although it is easy to get through doorways with - it is also not very stable and easily tips. Following Patricks advice - l purchased a Topro Olympus. lt is a four wheeler complete with a seat and backrest + a large compartment for carrying up to 10kgs. lts a very well designed and built - Norwegian. l now find l can get down the garden - feed the chickens - carry a full watering can in it. Pick the runner beans etc. And when l feel a bit dodgery l can sit down until l feel stronger. lt holds me upright - which a walking stick didn’t. When l let go of it - it stays put - doesn’t go clattering to the floor -like a walking stick does. l do not need a handbag as l can just put my purse and keys/phone in the storage bag. Even shove a jacket inside it. And it allows me to have my hands free -when l need to. lts light enough for me to pick up and put in the back of the car. l can also carry the basket of washing out to the rotary washing line to hang the washing out - and then bring the washing in. lt has been the best thing l have bought for a long time. lf only l could get it to come to a whistle when l have left it the other side of the kitchen and find l need it back.
And l must mention my beloved stairlift. l have had one for 25yrs now - and what a godsend it has been - without these ‘gadgets’ my life would be sh*t!
