I’m following the overcoming MS diet, ignoring the will it/wont it make a difference to MS debate, I’ve lost nearly two stone since I was diagnosed less than 4 months ago.

I lose weight before and during a relapse. It’s like an early warning sign now - if I start to lose weight without trying then it is likely that a relapse is on the way. I’m not overweight to start with (5’3 and usual weight about 9 stone). Last year it dropped to 8 stone 5 without trying and I had two relapses within 3 months. It took almost a year to put the weight back on with lots of eating all my favourite treats and puddings after every meal. I’m back to 9 stone now so I’m fairly sure it means my MS is stable for a while.

If I lost several stone, I think I would consult my GP though because that would be a concern.

hi

i lost loads of weight just before my diagnosis.

i went from 10 stone to 8 and a half stone.

dropped from size 14 to size 10.

i’m 5 foot 8" so i was underweight but being a girl, i enjoyed my size 10 days.

the wii fit kept on telling me that my BMI was too low but i was eating and nothing went on.

6 years later and i’m 11 stone. the bl**dy wii tells me my BMI is too high.

actually i’m eating less than ever. i have no appetite at all.

my recent blood tests must have shown something a bit dodgy because the surgery sent me a text asking me to make an urgent appointment to discuss.

the receptionist was able to tell me that my sugar levels were high and my cholesterol too.

i told her that i hardly eat these days and she said that perhaps that is what has caused it.

unfortunately my ā€œurgentā€ appointment was for 6 weeks later.

the most annoying thing is that i sent all my size 14 clothes to the charity shop, bought size 12 and did the same

so i’m now the top customer at the charity shop!!

Hi

I wondered if anyone can help me I’ve just been diagnosed with MS and I have a problem with my balance but I am looking to loose weight can any recommended any classes that they finds ok to do as I used to do Zumba but as my legs aren’t so steady I’m nervous about what to do and also what I can and can’t eat?

Regards,

Gemma

There are no rules about certain foods making MS symptoms worse - there’s no reason why you shouldn’t eat whatever you like. I’d recommend following a healthy balanced diet - plenty of fresh fruit and veg, not a lot of highly processed or fatty foods, that sort of thing. I’m sure other people will make their own recommendations but since I was diagnosed, I haven’t changed what I eat.

As for exercise, my physio has given me specific exercises to improve my core strength and balance - the whole routine takes about 10 minutes and can be done at home. For more general exercise, I use either an exercise bike or a cross trainer - I prefer the cross trainer. Once I’m on it, there is no need to lift my feet, which reduces the risk of falling, and it works the arms as well as the legs.

Hello everyone. I just saw the previous posts and i also wanted to post because i had some problems on reducing my daily meals but i simply can not. Any appropriate diet can help. Thank you

i joined slimming world online and find it very good,

i have lost 11lb so far, i would have lost more if i could exercise more, but i only manage 2 x 5 minute sessions on my exercise bike,a day.

I went from a size 12/14 to a size 8 in the year before diagnosis. I have never put the weight back on in the fifteen years since then. I eat a lot but I think I use a lot of energy too, just trying to do normal activities. I do try and go on our cross-trainer for 20 mins a day since reading that this kind of regular exercise slows down deterioration. Still waiting to see that slow down!
