Hi all,
I’m getting married next year and am shopping around for wedding insurance. I wondered if anyone else with MS has found any good policies which include pre-existing conditions?
Found this post from a while back - Wedding Insurance that covers MS - but nothing more recent just yet.
Just thought I’d ask in case anyone else has already put in the hard work of trawling through a lot of PDFs/policies, and had any tips or good places to start!
I’ll add whatever I go with to this thread if I do find something reasonable which covers pre-existing conditions.
I hope everyone’s holding up and enjoying slightly brighter days in the UK (although extra light/heat comes with its own challenges…)
x
In case helpful for anyone else in the future, I’ve gone for a policy with Emerald Life - I double-checked with their customer service via email if I would still be covered with MS and received the below:
We are able to provide cover for pre-existing medical conditions in certain circumstances. There is no formal medical screening during the application process, so cover is based on the general medical questions answered at the time the policy is taken out.
For your reference, these questions include:
- Does anyone in the wedding party have a terminal diagnosis?
- Is anyone in the wedding party waiting for the results of any tests or investigations?
- Are you aware of any reason why the wedding might be postponed or cancelled?
In relation to your long-term condition, if the condition is stable, well-controlled with medication, and not currently experiencing flare-ups or ongoing progression that would reasonably be expected to impact the wedding, you may feel able to answer “no” to the relevant questions and cover is based on your answers.
If an issue then arose with this condition and you made a claim, at that stage, the claims handlers would ask to see the relevant medical records to verify that the condition was stable when the insurance was taken out. If it hadn’t been stable, then they may argue that you were aware of a reason why the wedding might be postponed or cancelled.
