I agree, Mrs H, if you want to see the real country you have to venture off the tourist trail and meet the real people.
One of my best day out ever was in Tunisia in the '80s at their equivalent of an Ideal Home Exhibition and my friend and I were the only tourists there. It was fascinating to see what their idea of mod-cons were at the time … it was like the 1960s here but of course we were far too polite to tell them that.
All their food stalls sold unwrapped, local food at one-tenth of the price of the stuff we could buy in the tourist areas. It was delicious but we could imagine some of the people back at our hotel would have turned their noses up at it. Well, we loved it and we didn’t suffer any tummy ache afterwards - perhaps that says more about me than it does about the food ??

It was awful, as usual. I turned it off quarter of the way through then accidentally turned back when that mad compare woman was screaming her head off and jumping about like a chimp!!
Terrible.

It reminded me of the late great Klaus Nomi.

Hello everyone, a person watched, and liked, the Eurovision song contest, she, quite rightly, said so on here, so why all the aggro over it, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, if someone, anyone, likes a certain programme, and wishes to ask others in the same vein, who has anyone to decry that person the right, or their taste, if a reader doesn’t agree with a poster, say so, in a constructive manner, or, don’t don’t reply at all, Brian
I know, Pat !! Crisps and dips…and despite Chris saying that he would rather stick forks in his eyeballs, he rushed home from Harrogate for 8pm !! He denies all interest and says he rushed back before I ate all the nibbles !!
I don’t have TV, and I wasn’t there - but I heard it was crap.
