Walking problems?!?!

I started having problems walking last march then by June I had lost my balance and using borrowed aids since then, they don’t help feet drag still and they just hold me up stop me from falling outside. My neuro seems sure I have MS currently waiting for. MRI appointment, I have been saving up for a mobility scooter my family thinks my walking will get better but I’m not so sure. So just some advice will be nice  Also hVe bladder and bowel issues anything that will help bowels and anything to help reduce the bloating been like this for a year, I’m just getting on best I can as I don’t expect things just cure me. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Alysea (beautiful name!)

welcome aboard this forum hunny!

It is often the first sign of a neuro problem, when walking is affected. Often a dropped foot will cause you to trip up and walk slowly.

Having an mri may shed some light on what`s going on.

There are plenty of aids and drugs which may help.

Bladder and bowel problems can be part of ms, but again, there are therapies for both. The bloating may be caused through diet. Do you empty your bladder and bowels ok or are there control problems too?

It coud turn out that your problems are caused by something other than MS, so try to keep a open mind. I know its hard luv. ive been living with severe ms-like problems for 16 years.

Life is difficult, but I have a lot of good support and cope the best I can. This website is a godsend to many of us.

Hello Alysea Why not think about asking your gp to refer you to physio. They could help with aides for your mobilty problems. Having a chat with the continence nurse may be of help too. Like poll mentions, the bloating may have something to do with your diet. Certain foods I eat make me bloated…it’s just trial and error and knowing which to avoid. I wonder if mobilty scooters can be hired…maybe someone on here knows. Good luck with your MRI Xx

Thanks my neuro seems pretty sure it’s ms only other option was a slipped disc he said highly unlikely, bloating I think might be because of my bowels I don’t empty them completely same with bladder, I am on a clean eating diet to see if it helps. I saw my physio I was referred to her for oestroartharitis bad gp so I changed I don’t have that she didn’t want to make me worse to cancelled physio for now. My neuro said once diagnosed I’ll get physio and occupational therapist which I need I went from healthy to unable to walk within a year which I have got used to now I’ll pay for a scooter got some money saved just if walking isn’t going to improve I’ll get one ASAP. Thanks.

I started seeing a physio within a couple of weeks of being diagnosed. He gave me exercises to do at home (we agreed 5 days a week) and I am already walking better, my balance and stamina are both improving.

If I get trapped wind, peppermint tea helps shift it.

It sounds like you have a good neuro, so hopefully it won’t be long before you get some answers.

Just waiting for appointment for MRI hope it’s not too long  how are you Mitzi

I’m good, thanks, I had a few days in Italy with my Mum and it was great, so relaxing. All my symptoms seem to be stable and behaving at the moment, long may it continue!

I am, however, missing the Itallian weather!
