Waking with buzzing

Hi all,

I haven’t been on here for a while (I’m not diagnosed), as I am trying not to think about things -

History (brief) the Gabapentin is helping to quieten down the permanent pins and needles in feet/hands and less frequently in face, and I twitch a lot less now too… Im due (on Friday YAY!) to have an injection in my back to see if it will help ease up the stiffness and pain I have there. Oh and my cognitive process is slow, concentration poor - and memory shocking.

I had a clear MRI in December 2015, have had several people wave fleeting diagnoses at me for the cause of the peripheral neuropathy - From - female of a certain age (currently 38), its changes since having baby(ies)/hormonal, ‘its functional’, central centralisation and irritation of the nerve lining.

Since MRI I have developed a fuzzy buzz right at the bottom of my coccyx when I bend my head to my chest - this sometimes disappears for a couple of weeks but keeps returning; and when I make lunch for the kids I get tingling across my bra strap area…I have also had the whole of my spine vibrate - this was really relaxing (Ive accepted the weird)… I have told the pain doctor but this is not typical of MS… apparently…

My ‘new weird’ or variation of an existing weird, has taken me a while to figure out what was going on - but the penny dropped last night. I frequently dream I have a bumble bee buzzing on my neck and I wake up worried about being stung or having it tangled in my hair - but last night I woke from the dream quickly, and as I hadn’t moved I realised sadly, that my neck was still buzzing…big sigh…

Can anybody relate? does buzzing wake people? Am i right to just keep waiting?

my current plan is to have the injection in my back and see if things ease up, then go back to pain doctor/gp and look at other things to rule out - (I don’t have Lupus or Lyme and B12 is fine - only thing found is extremely low vit D for which i now take 800mui? a day)…

…thank you x Emma

Amitrityline fixed me. I take a bit too much, but the alternative is unbearable pain. My old neuro recognized this and gave me back my sanity. The pain was so bad, it’s like being electrocuted. Here, I could buy it over the counter, just 10 mgs. I take 50 a niight, 50 mgs that is. 2 pills from my prescription. I hope it helps you as much as me. xx

Thank you for your reply - and sorry for the pain you have had to endure.

The buzzing in my neck is annoying (enough to shock/wake me) but it doesn’t hurt - Im tempted to double dose my gabapentin before bedtime a few nights and see how I fare.

My GP (thankfully) is fantastic and happy to medicate -do you mean amitriptyline? - GP has offered this before but sided with gabapentin (currently 600mg 3x per day) … I’m reluctant to add additional medication at the moment as it took me months to get over the spaceman feeling of the Gabapentin, but I think on balance I would be happy to rattle a little more than I do currently to sleep through the bees and back pain! x Emma
