Waiting

Hi everyone

I feel a little silly being here because I am not diagnosed but I wanted to share what has been going on with me. I had a friend who was diagnosed with MS and I was researching it to find out all about it and I realized it sounded just like me.

-I have been suffering from vertigo on and off for years. I have also noticed, moreso lately, that my balance isn’t very good, and I will have times where I just fall over.

-About 2 years ago, I noticed the vision in my right eye went really blurry and I went to the eye doctor, but she said my prescription hasn’t changed so she didn’t know. Now the blurriness seems to come and go. I will have periods of times, days to weeks where it is blurry and other times where it seems okay.

-Almost a year ago, the right side of my face went numb and it stayed that way for about 2-3 months. I went to the doctor and he had a ct scan done but it showed nothing, and than it returned in January but it wasn’t just my face, it was also the left side of my back, like a circle almost, but it was also what felt like a thick band, about 3-4 inches wide that was numb from the left side of my back to the right. I also get tingling on and off in my hands and feet, as well as in my back, but that isn’t a constant, but the numbness is 24/7 for a few months. I also find sometimes when I go for a walk, my feet go numb and feel weird, no tingling though.

-I also noticed since my face started going numb, that my memory is shot and that I find it hard to concentrate, like if I am being asked too many things at once, I feel overwhelmed. So much so, that I have burst into tears because I cant get my thoughts in order, which isn’t normal for me.

-I have also noticed over the last year that I have to pee a lot. Like there will be times where I will pee 3 times in a half hour. I go through some periods of time where I don’t seem to have to urinate as frequently but it is very annoying when sometimes, I just go pee and than I have to go pee, again.

-Also over the last little while, I have noticed that my legs feel weaker, I especially notice when I climb my stairs. They feel like I have been climbing a hundred stairs and they hurt. I think this is weird because I literally walk everywhere. I am constantly walking and I don’t think my legs should feel so weak climbing so few stairs. I also find that sometimes when I wake up in the morning, it feels like I was exercising the day before because my muscles hurt, even if I haven’t been exercising. I also find that I cant squat for long periods of time, or even short for that matter. If I am squating, even for like 15-30 seconds, getting up can be excruciating.

  • I also find that I get hit with extreme tiredness sometimes, like out of nowhere I need to lie down because I am througholy exhausted, like I was just hit by a truck.

-I also cant handle the heat. I get really sick if I get overheated.

-I also experience a lot of pain in the right side of my face. I sometimes get what feels like someone is stabbing me in the side of my head, and sometimes this pain will happen if I am out for a walk and it is windy. I thought at first it was the wind getting into my ear, but it happens if I have headphones on as well. That pain is more electrical and sharp, but I do experience a lot of ear and face pain that is more of a throbbing sensation.

I know that is a huge list, and thank you for reading this. I am just waiting to see a neurologist, and I am really scared that he will just call me crazy. I am wondering what I should expect at a first visit, seeing a neurologist.

Thanks so much.

At my first appointment with my current neuro, we talked about my symptoms and he asked if I had this that and the other one. Then he did some tests: hitting my knees with his hammer, running it up the soles of my feet, getting me to walk heel-to-toe, simple things like that. Based on what I told him and the results of the tests, he decided I should have an MRI, evoked potential and lumbar puncture with another appointment with him to discuss the results once all the tests were done.

It may help you if you take with you a note of your symptoms and when each started. This will help you answer his questions better and so give him a more detailed history. I also take my husband with me to consultant appointments as two sets of ears are better than one! Your consultant should have no objection to you inviting a partner, parent or friend to sit in on the consultation.

Thank you :). I will definitely write everything down and I will bring my hubby with. I think I would be too nervous to go alone.
