Hi I have been wondering for a few years now that it wasn’t just fibromyalgia that has been plaguing me, last month I managed to get my GP to refer me to neurologist as I have had problems with my eyes and swallowing. On Tuesday I got a new symptom that started with my back spasms being worse and ended up with the sole of my left foot having pins and needles and outside of ankle being numb and I can’t lift my foot towards my shin. Dr yesterday said definitely a neuro symptom and would update my referral, today I had my first fall because of it my foot got caught on floor I did have my crutch but fell to the other side. I can’t find much info on foot drop I just want know anything.
I use elbow crutches outside and have done for 3 years this was mainly due to pain and fatigue now it’s more because I’m so clumsy tripping over my own feet or walking into things I can see are there (always done this just getting more obvious)
I’m just frustrated as after i got fibromyalgia diagnosis from rheumatologist everything has been put down to that
Hi, fibro often gets muddled up with MS, as they are so similar sometimes.
My 1st/2nd symptom of MS was foot drop, coupled with a very heavy left leg when walking.
It’s caused by the usual problem with MS…ie messages not getting through due to myelin being lost, which covers nerve conduction fibers.
Hope your neuro makes the right dagnosis.

I thought there would be plenty on this main part of this MS Soc site about dropped foot, but there isn’t a lot apart from a couple of blog posts, is there? I did find this on the (equally reputable) MS Trust site. Foot drop | MS Trust
I am sorry that you are having such a worrying time and hope that you make some progress soon in finding out whether something else might be going on and what that might be.
Thank you Alison
I also thought there would be more info on dropped foot, I will definitely have a look.
