Waiting for MRI results/concerning symptoms

Im 29 and mother of 3 and I have been having very strange symptoms and the suspense of what it could be is very frustrating. Ive always had problems with fatigue so wanting to sleep all day isn’t a symptom I would say is new. My noticeable symptoms started 1 1/2 years ago when the tip of my toe went numb. I thought it was because I had been wearing heels that were too tight all day and dismissed it. Months went by and decided to see my PC. Blood results came back fine and I didn’t push for any other tests because honestly I felt silly going in for a numb toe. Fast forward two months ago I suddenly start to see
an aura/scotoma in almost the center of my vision in my right eye. I have struggled from visual/ocular migraines for years so thought I was about to have one . Nope just the spot in my eye that flashes and becomes way more noticeable in the dark. When I blink I see an even bigger spot that doesn’t flash and when I open I see another spot that’s black but only for a second and then goes away until I blink again or stand up. But the flashing one is always there. My eye aches and I’m always rubbing it trying to get the spot and blurry vision to go away. I blink and my eye stings and if I concentrate my eyes will flicker back n forth really fast for just a second. I decided to get seen from an eye urgent care. Everything was fine no detached retina or tears or anything concerning with my optic nerve. Dr said he doesn’t know what it is but hopes it goes away. 2 weeks pass and I’m miserable. My eye is the same if not a little worse and now I’m having problems with my hands and feet going numb and sharp pins and needles in my calves. If I raise my right hand in a certain way it shakes. At night I wake up with my whole body buzzing and my ears ringing. My feet and hands fall asleep within seconds of them being raised up. My fingertips on my right hand are always numb. I can still feel pain but they feel very weird like they are asleep. I keep thinking I’m accidentally taking my SSRIs twice and having some sort of reaction but I’m not. Everyday seems like I feel worse and worse but nothing big happens like other stories I’ve read about MS. I don’t have paralysis or double vision, I can still see, walk, and talk fine.
I ended up reaching out to the Dr at the eye urgent care and asked about what to do since I’m not able to see a neurologist until July 29th. He ordered a stat MRI because of my neurological symptoms which I had Thursday. I feel so silly thinking that I have MS because it’s such a big diagnoses but with all my symptoms I don’t know what I should think. I just want my complete vision back and to know what’s wrong with me. I’ve also been thinking of maybe a B12 deficiency? Or I’m having some delayed effects from my antidepressant? I’ve taken it for 2 years so I feel like I would have had these symptoms earlier on. I have an app with my psychiatrist next week to rule out medication side effects.

I can’t seem to find any other MS stories about a constant scotoma in vision other than a blurry spot . Mine is not just a blind spot it flashes and is colorful and never goes away. That is honestly my biggest complaint, the distorted vision.

Any advice or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hi Kianajoy

It must be a very worrying time for you.

Was your B12 level checked in the blood test you mention? If not, have blood tests for deficiencies in B12 and/or D, and also for excess B6, as excess B6 can apparently cause neurological symptoms similar to MS and other neurological conditions. That will be a step forward towards finding out what is going on.

The results of the MRI will, fingers crossed, give some answers one way or another.

If you are not already doing so, start a symptom diary for What, When, How Bad, How Long. Its a really useful tool, especially when you get to see a Neurologist.

Hi TheresaB,

Thank you so much for your comment. My vitamin D was normal. But he didn’t put in an order for B12 and 6. I’m thinking of asking for more blood work done. I actually have been taking B6 for nausea off and on through my pregnancy but it’s only 25mg and the bottle is still full. I have been taking it more often to try and get some energy back but I’ll stop taking it alltogether. Thank you I didn’t know that about B6!
And I def will start tracking my symptoms more by date and duration.
