anyone else had this
please reply asap

Hi

I’m not surprised you’re feeling scared about that, especially without knowing when you’ll get any feeling back. It might be worth having a think to see if there was anything that might have triggered it, like getting too hot or stressed, or having an infection. Personally I’ve not anything like that happen to myself. I’d give your MS nurse a call though and let them know, as they may be able to help you more.

Dan

Hi,

Are you diagnosed?

5 hours doesn’t sound like an MS relapse - it’s not long enough. Were you doing anything out of the ordinary? Any unaccustomed exertion, or unusual amount of stress?

I think you should speak to the doctor, just in case this isn’t MS - or even if it is. But it does not sound typical.

Of course, people can be very severely affected by MS, to the point it affects all bodily functions. But they wouldn’t usually recover in just five hours.

Are things normal again now? Or whatever counts for normal, depending how you are usually?

Tina

If you woke up like this, have a google about sleep paralysis.

Yes, I agree with Karen. I have experienced this and its very scary, thought I was having mother of all relapses but it wasn’t. Mine didn’t last anything like hours though, it was prob only minutes, just seemed ages. (I don’t even know whether sleep paralysis is related to ms)

Dont know if this helps but approx 5 years ago woke up in the middle of the night to go to the loo, then I realised I couldnt move my legs. I was paralysed from the waist down. I had to lift my legs with my arms/hands and throw myself off the bed, knowing I would either crumple to the ground or be able to stand. because I couldnt feel anything I managed to balance, holding onto the wall. I then had to walk with stiff numb legs/feet etc by swinging my body until I reached the loo. Then getting onto the loo and off again was a game of throwing oneself in the hope one could aim. Needless to say I crashed my head and back against the loo, then getting up had to throw myself at the opposite wall. I finally managed to get back into bed, then slept deeply and next morning I hurt all over, really hurt. I was like you, so shocked, thought this is it, Im going to be paralized, if its happened once it can happen again. Neuro wrote it in my notes but with a big question mark.

I have to say, Its never happened again, and I hope it doesnt. What Rizzo says about sleep paralysis makes sense - but its so frightening. I do hope you are like me and it will never happen again.

Sharing is caring. Take care,

bren

Hi Erica, so you`re a medical mystery too, eh?

Reckon I`ve played the game long enough now…14yrs and counting.

luv Pollx

Hi Erica,

Sounds scary.

You didn’t have a head ache at all did you, either in the hours before, during or after the paralysis episode?
It is just that there is a rare form of migraine that can cause temporary paralysis and can leave some residual weakness for a few days. More usually it only affects one side of the body though rather than the whole body but it might be worth asking your neuro about especially if you had a headache.

All the best and hope things settle,

Belinda

i had nothing elese wrong with me :frowning: .Belinda

it’s fun Poll waitnig for next batch of tests to come back clear lol

ive experieced sleep paralysis, quite a few times, and its scared me alot. thought i was dying, lol. i wake not able to do anything-even breath,or shout. not even to move my eyeball.

ive also exprienced relapse where ive not been able to walk, hold a mug,but never had total paralysis while awake, just not able.

does ny1 know why this happens, and can it happen to ny1? MS or not?

When I have a relapse this is what happens to me except it lasts for about 5 days I always have Iv steroids

I had an episode like this but it lasted 18 weeks I hope I never ever experience anything like it again. Showering was the worst as it felt like I was been pelted with hail stones - not a nice feeling I can tell you. It was so severe that I’ve been left with legs that feel like they don’t belong to me, always heavy and numb. My neuro says this is permenant because of the nerve damage. Hope you never experience it again X
