im feeling sorry for myself today,and i know what caused the problem.Me and the other half went food shopping last night and i stupidly picked up a very heavy bag.When will i ever learn. A horrendous pain went through my upper back and i thought bugger havent had this pain for 2 years, my trapezius muscle (large muscle in upper back near shoulderblades) went into spasm. It hurt like mad,and 17hrs on,it is still in spasm.Have a lovely sleep not last night.Ive taken neurofen,now ive just taken the baclofen, hope this kicks in,going to work in a few hours. 18 days ago i would have smoked 2 packets of fags,but i have now given up.so all i had was my nictgum and inhalor to suck on hard.

If the pain dousnt go by tomorrow, i think i will have to go to a/e.Last time this happened i ended up spending 2 weeks in hospital.

Kim, have you had a dexa scan to see if your bones are weakening? I did after my back hurt after lifting something heavy and it was found Id broken two vertibrae. Seems I also suffer osteoporosis.

Also had pain like your experiencing yesterday. I took baclofen and amytryptiline together. Seemed to help.

Go see gp and ask for your bones to be tested and if youve not got amytryptiline ask for it to be prescribed.

I do hope your soon pain free, not fun is it.

I take Amitriptyline for this too. Usually it works taken at night but still have to pace myself and cannot over do things.

I hope you get some relief and as bren has suggested a visit to your GP could be in order.
