So I’ve just phoned up mine and my partners life insurance to update his records to show his MS.
To my surprise, I’ve then been passed through to the claims department?
Apparently he is covered for this diagnosis and we may be entitled to a pay out? I’m super confused as all I was doing was updating his records with the MS so (god forbid) any thing happened to him, it was on his records and wouldn’t make his policy void.
They are now looking in to it and we should know in the next six weeks?
Has anyone made a claim on this? What was the outcome?
Yes Dora, I have & had the payout. As long as your partner didn’t have MS when he took out the policy & it is clearly stated on your insurance agreement, you shouldn’t have any probs getting the money. They will write for confirmation to his neurologist, that’s it! Good luck Tracey
That’s what we are thinking about. He had the first symptoms when we were taking out the policy but at the time there was no diagnosis. So I’m thinking they may not pay out? Was it a decent pay out? Sorry to ask lol xx
Hi Dora-Bella Would this by any chance be a critical illness policy under your life insurance?
Was he being tested at the time it was taken out? was MS indicated as a possible by the Dr? If it was you may have a problem if it wasn’t disclosed, insurers don’t like paying out if they don’t have to. I had taken mine out long before I was diagnosed, they couldn’t dispute it. I did have a good payout, yes, depends how much you have been covered for on the policy, mine was critical illness cover.
Thanks for the replies.
He had the double vision which was under investigation when we took the policy out. The double vision was end of Jan which cleared up on its own before diagnosis but he was under investigation then. The policy was taken out in May and diagnosis was made in September?
Was MS suggested in Jan Dora? Will make a difference if it was.
It wasn’t suggested at the time but he was under the hospital under investigation. So I’m thinking nothing will come of it really
Sorry to ask more questions Dora, did you disclose he was receiving investigations? bit of a hard 1 this, like I said, I am hoping for you that they will pay out, but they don’t pay out just on dx if there was a suspicion he was presenting symptoms of MS & the Dr was indicating that way at the time you signed up. If you did tell them & they encouraged you to proceed anyway, it’s blatant miselling of a product, you will have a case against them. If info was withheld, they are under no obligation to pay out & I would seriously look at what else your product covers.
Thankyou for replying.
The problem is when we took the policy out he had had the bad eyes and they had gone back to normal shortly after. When he had his appointment we were surprised there was a problem that needed further investigation. I genuinely can’t remember if we mentioned it or not? It was quite a while ago we took the policy out and it all kind of happened around the same time. Will just have to wait and see I guess
Good luck Dora, hopeful for you it will be ok. If MS wasn’t suspected & you were not told it was, it should be fine. Tracey x
Thank you Tracey
ill update when we find out
agree with Tracey - if your partner was being investigated for eye problems when cover was taken out or indeed if he had been investigated previously and this was NOT disclosed then you have a problem.
There was someone on this site who had taken Critical Illness Cover out after a dx of m.s. but because the dr hadn’t told the guy he had m.s. the guy got a full pay out although he had to fight for it.
