Morning I have recently been diagnosed but am still waiting for my referral to the ms team. I already claim uc and as my job is term time only I work enough hours during term time so it evens out over the year to the minimum hours for claiming uc. My problem is I am currently signed off by my gp as I was struggling with the hours. I have a meeting with my work to discuss returning with less hours but how will this affect my uc claim as I will then not be working enough hours? Hope that all makes sense and thank you in advance for any help any one can give me x
Have you tried asking the citizens advice bureau on the implications of this? I’m sure they’ll be able to assist you.
I’ve personally not got any experience in this, but I lost my job several weeks ago due to how ms has affected me. Unfortunately I was self employed so I don’t have a leg to stand on. I’m now going through the process of claiming ESA.
With UC they have to have a reasonable excuse as to why you wish to cut hours or they could sanction you. In an ideal world you would cite your ill health and that should be enough. If you have told them you have a disability that affects your ability to work you may have to go through their hoops such as work capability assessments etc etc. If you claim pip or have a carer or a child under three they will leave you alone.
