Type 1 Diabetes and MS

I’m excited to be part of this group. Thank you in advance for any information you choose to share. I have 3 Autoimmune diseases: MS, type 1 diabetes, and Hoshimotos Thyroiditis. Anytime else have any combination of these diseases?

MS symptoms really affect my T1 Diabetes. Looking for any information about managing the two together. I’ve been diabetic 43 years, MS -13 years, and Hoshimotos Thyroiditis about 2 years. Any insight about how you address any of them is appreciated.

My most difficult hurdle is trying to lose weight while maintaining proper nursing. There are so many diet plans, yet many haven’t been proven. I’ve had an eating disorder in the past. (not uncommon for diabetics) I’m trying lose weight the right way with proper diet and exercise. I’m finding out to accomplish this, especially during a time of pandemic. I won’t leave the house except for my Tysabri infusion. My husband tried to be supporting, but he it’s not helpful with diet and exercise. A type 2 himself, his eating practices are atrocious and down right dangerous. I’ve asked for his help, but he is not very good at avoiding temptation re food. He also ships for quantity- not quality. He doesn’t believe the “hype” about proper nutrition.

Thanks again for any tips

I have MS and Hashimotos thyroid disease and managed to lose three stone last year. Sadly and stupidly I have let myself put half that back on in the past couple of months. Much easier to gain than lose.! The main thing for me was portion size and my love of bread and cheese. Seriously I gave up bread also cheese but not much else and just had a reasonable portion of whatever else we were eating. I really love fresh bread and since Christmas I started eating the odd sandwich again, then I bought fresh loaves from the bakery and hey presto the weight is back. I really need to get a grip and get this under control again. I feel much worse being bigger again. That elusive thing called will power is what worked for me before. Hope it will again.
