Tremors/Cramp in legs and feet

Hi, Today I’m feeling extremely fragile as I’m not really sleeping :frowning: One of my ms symptoms are restless legs, they tremor a lot throughout the day but extremely at night along with cramp in my calves and feet. I don’t really sleep as I often wake up in severe pain. My partner has told me this morning that he getting more concerned for me as my legs are shaking more throughout the night and sound in pain even when I am sleeping. I’m really glad he’s here as when I wake up with severe cramp he rubs my legs and feet and tries to calm me down. My partner said to me he thought I was taking some sort of seizure as I was shaking that much last night but he realised it was my legs and feet that were causing all my shaking, he said during the night my toes go all funny they curl in I said to him that will be the cramp. My legs and feet are so sore today and can’t really walk very well. I’m take Gabapentin for the nerve pain in my legs but it doesn’t seem to be working very well. Do any of you have this similar symptom and what treatment do you take? Thanks for any advice. Polly x

I get the same thing in my legs and feet. I was prescribed Baclofen and Tizanadine. For me it doesn’t make them stop completely but they are nowhere near as painful as they were without them…

Hope this helps

Thanks Dave. I have my gp on Wednesday then my specialist on the 27th. I’ve been trying so hard not to get more meds and my house feel like a pharmacy now but the pain is getting too much that I need something as I’m finding it harder to stand up and do basic things. Hopefully it will be get better. Polly x

Hi Polly

I take baclofen for spasms and stiffness and amitriptline for nerve pain, and that takes the edge off for me, butbI found I had to start on a very low dose and only increase them very slowly.

As for the tremor, my ms nurse started me on propranalol 6 months ago, and whilst it has not made ut go away, I can feel an improvement in my limbs but not so much with my head, and again I had to increase very slowly.

Have a word with your ms nurse gp or neuro, and whilst on one wants to take meds, its better than suffering with these symptoms.

Take care

Hi Pam Thanks I’m going to speak to my G.P about baclofen. I take amitripline in the evening aswell but only a low dose so she may increase this. Thanks Polly x

Pam, re Propranalol, are you on the tablets or the slow release capsules? I didn’t get much relief from the tablets, but the sustained release caps seem to have better results, for me anyway!

Apologies if this is inappropriate Polly, but have you tried cannabis? I find it reduces stiffness and spasms in my legs and helps me to sleep.

I have also been taking ropinirole for restless legs (asked my doctor for it after researching myself) for years and it’s very effective. If I forget to take it at night I will inevitably wake up with horribly jumpy legs!

Hi Perky I haven’t tried it, I’ve heard it can help but don’t think it’s for me. I’d never say never though as who knows how my symptoms will progress. I will have a look at ropinirole later today as I have my gp on Wednesday. Thanks Polly x

Hi Polly

Yep tried Baclofen when they said i had Parkinsons i didnt (though different fo others) find any releif from using it , ive also tried Canabis tbh it wasnt a route i wanted to go down but i wanted to see if it would work yes i felt 18 again but i couldnt walk up the path and resulted in me falling onto our garden furniturre at 4am which didnt impress thee neighbours much i dont think as that started my 8 stone GSD barking  hence i was the 1 in the doghouse in the morning, i have and use proprannanol but again im taking 4 10mg tabs 3x a day and my tremor still rocks on like i am at a Status Quo concert

Hi B

Yes, I am on the tablets, and whilst I have noticed an improvement I know when it is time for another, so perhaps the slow release ones would be better.

Thanks, I will enquire about those, it is so nice to have something that helps with the tremor as I find it quite embarrassing.
