Toileti issues...you have been warned !

So…in the space of 10 days I’ve wet myself on my Mum’s sofa, soiled myself at home and consequently my husband had to wash me because I just couldn’t reach to do it myself. Today, at my parents house I went to go to wee, to cut a long story short, my Mujm ended up having to clean my bottom, whilst my Dad and sister wondered what was happening. I cried when my husband had to clean me up last week…today I didn’t. But, I can’t help thinking is this what the future holds ? I’m 55 and having my bottom cleaned by my mother, who has Parkinson’s…however as she said after my 20th sorry, ’ don’t worry,it’s not as if I haven’t done it before’

Has anybody else had similar experiences and how did you deal with it ? x

PS sorry for the detailed

Don’t be embarrassed, I’m sure other people on here fully understand how you feel.

Do you have an MS nurse? If so, I’d get in touch and discuss the situation with her. She should be able to refer you to appropriate specialists (bladdet nurse or urologist) for help. If you haven’t got an MS nurse, speak to your GP or your neuro. There are things that can help once the cause of the problem has been identified.

I have learned the hard way not to wait too long before going to the loo and I’m going to get back out my make-up bag that holds a packet of baby wipes, a couple of nappy disposal bags and a spare pair of knickers. Partly this is so that I am better equipped to deal with any future accidents, but slso because we have a strong belief in my family that being prepared for an unpleasant eventuality means that the event won’t happen!

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. In addition to pestering your GP/ms nurse, maybe check out the bladder and bowel foundation website - there’s some useful general info there and maybe it will help to see that lots of folk, with and without ms, have problems - and that there are lots of things to help. Oxybutin has made my bladder frequency manageable and I’m waiting for an appointment with the urodynamics nurse. See your GP and give 'em all the details! Good luck xx

Thankyou for your suggestions Mitzi and Becca. Yes, I do know I need to see a GP but it’s virtually impossible to get an appointment at our practice, so I was putting it off ! probably hoping it would go away.

It’s interesting to see that bowel issues have been posted 4 times in the last 24 hrs, it just goes to show that many of us suffer from these problems ,it’s good to know we’re not alone. x

same things have happened me, it effects you mentally so much, im 22 and very rarely go anywere now, cathiders help me with the bladder alot, and bladder and bowels have got slightly better over time but even if i get treatment for them it will still be in the back of my mind, for me is by far the most difficult thing i have to deal with from having ms, i have an inncontinence nurse who is treating me so you should get in contact with the specialists in thate field

Hello hun. I know this is really embarrassing for you, but believe me, it is all in a days work for may of us hun.

I hd no control of my bladder and have had a suprapubic catheter put in and it makes life easier.

As regards bowels…I need laxido to go and when it wants to go, I cant stop it. I usually get a bit of warning, but being a full time wheelchair user, it can be dicey at times!

Ring your continence service or ask GP to refer yo.

Hope htings improve, as it is enough to make you feel really down and not want to go out.
