Tizanidine _ help please

Hello everyone,

I have stiffness to right leg caused by spasticity making walking difficult as cant bend knee well. I have been on baclofen for 6 months and I dont think it has changed anything. The doctor has just prescribed me Tizanidine 2mg/twice a day for 2 weeks then 4mg/twice a day after that. I started yesterday and within exactly on hour of taking it I had really dry mouth and extreme drousyness! But I did notice improvements in my walking because of reduced stiffness. Today the same pattern occured. Does this side effect wear off as you get used to it because I couldnt drive or function on this drug.

Thanks

Hi, I’m on tizanidine. The symptoms should wear off as your body gets used to it… I carry a bottle of water around with me.(handbag size) and dry mouth spray from Boots (someone on this site recommended it).

Make sure you have blood tests for liver function - I was told once a month until your dosage is stable. Then once every three months. As your Dr if he hasn’t told you.

Hope it reduces spasticity - very up and down for me.

I started taking it recently, took one tablet a day for 4 days with no real effect good or bad, then started increasing the dose as instructed to two tablets, but straight away my legs became so weak and heavy that my walking was much much worse. I didn’t take any more of them.

I would also like to know if this is a temporary side effect? Because if not there’s not much point in us taking it is there Moyna!

Argh it’s so frustrating trying to find an effective treatment for stiffness! I want to try Sativex so bad!

Yes I have heard sativex is the best. I am going to push on with the tizanidine in the meantime and try the mouth spray as jen suggested.

Tried Baclofen and tizanidine with the same results as you - l found l could just not function - certainly made me feel far worse and there was no way l would be safe driving a car.

For over two years now l have been using Sativex - and l find it a much better medication. l do use it mainly in the evening and before going to bed.

With Tizanidine it is important to have regular blood tests for liver function. My dentist told me that it also causes bleeding gums.

The last thing we need is meds that have side-effects worse then the symptoms you take it for.

Been taking tizanadine (2mg 4 x day) in conjunction with baclofen for over a year now. It has reduced the severity of the spasms but they are not gone completely. Haven’t noticed any side effects…

My GP thinks that the tizanidine is causing my blood pressure to drop suddenly and I have been told to stop taking them. I wonder what they will try me on next. I only have stiffness, no spasms or pain thankfully.

Hello Moyna & Dave38,

Baclofen 10mg twice a day, morning and evening, + Tazanadine 2mg *3 once a day at night and spasms have almost completely stopped. I do get a very dry mouth but that could be because of the detrusitol.

A dry mouth in exchange for no spasms and a better bladder is a very fair exchange.

Hi

I take 10 mg Tizanidine at night, immediately before bed. My legs then stay fairly ‘loose’ until mid aternoon, when I embark upon stretching. I realise it could be better to space the 10 mg out through the day but my MS nurse said it was ok to take all at once, as I do. This way, I’m not affected by drowsiness.

Best wishes

I tried Baclafen, then gabapentin, pregabalin, and alsotizanadine, none worked for me, my doc says it was bad luck that they were no good but they think it was no good as I am on warfarin, but I got all the dry mouth mood swings some times so low I would just cry, and the fatigue I to would love to try Sativax but in our ppc its a no go
