The next phase!

Good afternoon to you all. I had an appointment this morning with my consultant urologist the outcome of which was that my bladder isn’t emptying fully and I will now need to learn to self catheterise before I go to bed and when I get up in the morning. I knew that this was going to be the next step so I’ve just got to get on with it. Will now wait for the visit from the urinary nurse to be taught how to do it. Not looking forward to this at all. Linda x

don’t worry about it Linda, self catheterisation is easy. I you have any question, please feel free to PM me, love Bex xxx

Don’t worry Linda. It isn’t as bad as you think it is gonna be.

To be honest it is nice to self catheterise if you are going on a long journey because you know you are completely empty. I remember I was really upset though following my scan so I do understand.

Good luck with it and you know where we are if you need us.

Shazzie xx

Thanks, ladies. Does it hurt and is it messy? I realised afer I left I hadn’t ask the urologist if when I start ISC can I stop taking the 1 10mg tablet a day Solafenicin and stop using pads? Linda x

Hi Linda. Just a little more reassurance for you. I am 32yrs old and have been performing ISC since i was 23. It really isn’t as bad as it seems and since doing this it has cut my UTI’s down by half. You are still at risk of this infections from performing ISC but this will all be explained to you by your consultant etc. It doesn’t hurt and once your used to performing this it isn’t messy. It’s all about finding the right sort of catheter for you. I didn’t get along with the hospital 1’s provided as they were too long and very flexible. I would recommend looking at the coloplast website. They are fantastic! Discreet delivery to your home, and very discreet catheters that you can comfortably carry around with you in your handbag!! Good luck and feel free to ask me anything
