Does anyone know if you can get a free certificate to carry Rebif on a plane? I have asked my GP and he would charge me and I have tried getting hold of my MS nurse but that’s always a useless phone call as she never answers or returns my calls. So just wonderd whether it’s worth trying to get hold of her.
My MS nurse has written a letter for me and you can also phone the rebif helpline who issue a “passport”. I can’t see why your GP would charge for it though - that’s a bit off!
I’m on Tysabri now but I was on Rebif for 9 years and I was NEVER in that time asked for any letter or certificate about my syringes - I flew an average of 4 times a year in that period. Security are so used to people travelling with injectable medication (diabetics for example) that they tend not to bat an eyelid. I always used to declare it when checking in and nobody was ever all that interested. I did have a letter in my bag but never showed it to anybody! Don’t worry!
GPs charge for everything they can If you cant get a letter or certificate just make sure to declare it and if you are really worried bring any paperwork you might have to confirm the MS. but like thr person above said, airlines are pretty use to flying with passengers and their meds
When I took my Rebif on holiday, I obtained a letter from BUPA (who delivered my Rebif each month) which explained why I was travelling with injectable medication. As others have said though, security didn’t show any interest whatsoever. I carried it with my hand luggage as it must not go in the hold due to the risk of freezing and it was scanned with the rest of my belongings.
I know it’s not Rebif, but I’ve walked through with bottles of liquid morphine before, and they weren’t even for me, but for my dad, who was too poorly to carry them himself. Nobody EVER challenged us - not about the liquid limits (well over), nor about why we were carrying controlled drugs - none of it. Although, on the face of it, this seems to be a security risk, I think, as others have said, security staff must be SO used to it, and aren’t going to get confrontational unless there are some other grounds for suspicion. Yes, we did have a note from my dad’s doctor, just in case, but I don’t remember being charged for it, or certainly ever having to produce it. I don’t know if it’s shocking or rather heartening that people sick enough to need liquid morphine must quite often engage in air travel! Tina x
