Taking mum with progressive MS to Europe Xmas Markets? Advice please...

Hiya

i am new to the forum, my mum was diagnosed with MS when she was 35 years old, she is now 56 and suffers daily with the following symptoms: limited mobility (walking frames in the home / wheelchair outside home), nueralga facial pains and shakes / tremours.

I want to take her to a european city for a weekend to visit the christmas markets, I am wondering if you had any recommendations or advice regarding this.

I am concerned about the level of responsibility of caring solely for my mum, she has moved away and my dad / her husband is her main carer but I really want to take her away.

Any advice greatly appreciated - she is quite a big lady so i am also worried about supporting her movements (e.g. in and out of bed)

thanks

Hey,

I think it’s a brilliant idea and how lucky your Mum is to have a daughter like you. You only get one life and your Mum needs to grab it with both hands. I took my Mum to Dublin several years ago when she was pretty much wheelchair bound. I recall it being a bit stressful and hard work, but worth it when I realised how much it meant to her. She told me afterwards it was like getting a bit of her life back. She’s in a nursing home now but it’s a precious memory of something we achieved despite the MS.

So good luck to you and I hope you both have a good time and many more trips!
