Hi all, I was diagnosed with MS on Friday. Yesterday, I all of sudden had the feeling of something stuck in my throat. I can still eat and drink but the feeling is awful and I’m frightened this could lead to not being able to swallow. Does anyone suffer with this? Is there anything that can be done or will I live with this feeling forever?
Hi Jess, it could possibly be tension/anxiety from just being diagnosed. In everyone, when we get stressed, our throat muscles tighten and it feels like choking, or an obstruction there.
On the other hand, MS can cause this too. I get this sometimes. SALT (speech and langauge therapist) can help.

This might help explain.
Hello,
I’m experiencing swallowing difficulties at the moment, along with tinnitus (left ear) and Lhermitte’s Sign, since my January relapse --the hospital discharge summary mentioned small lesions on the neck spinal cord so maybe that’s to blame.
I’ve had MS since teenage, possibly earlier, but I have found the body learns to heal itself and adapts to living with condition, over time.
I’m still on soup diet due to swallowing difficulty but hopeful I can cope with solids, in the near future.
Best,
JP
