Supra Pubic Catheter Op on Monday

Hi everyone

I’m having a SPC fitted on Monday. I chose to have local anaesthetic because the waiting list was much shorter than having it done by general.

I’ve had loads of support from Poll, Noreen (Blossom), Jen, Christine and Steve.

Has anyone had one fitted under local Anaesthetic? How did it go?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Take care.

Hi Shazzie

I’ve not had an SPC, but just wanted to wish you well for Monday. Poll is back from her latest holiday today so I’m sure she’ll be on the case over the weekend to give you her input. (She’s good like that!)

Hi Shazzie

I’ve had 2supra pubic catheters fitted but neither by local so sorry can’t help you there!

You’ll find your life far easier once things have settled down. I wear mine with a flip flow valve which works well for me!!

Good luck, I hope things go well for you.

Thanks Sue and Linda.

Glad yours works well for you Linda.

I’m looking forward to not looking for the toilet wherever I go. I am more or less confined to the loo at the moment so quite excited.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi .Linda.

Long time no chat! How are things with you? Do you still have your changes at hospital?

Mine are 4 weekly now, otherwise they get blocked!

Shazzie , you will be amazed how your lifestyle will change once you have your SPC. l have had mine for over 20yrs - so message me if you need any advice. l get mine changed - at home by a specialist nurse - every 5 weeks. 4-5 weeks is the norm. Otherwise it can be more difficult to remove- and you do not want that. Rarely get a uti. You will be surprised at how easy it is to empty it - in all sorts of situations. Us girls have always envied the lads how easy it is for them - well you will also soon have ‘the technology’ - keep a plastic bottle handy - by the bed - in the car. l have even emptied mine on horse-back!!! But that’s another story.

And l leave the toilet seat up!

Just to add to Frances 's reply about where you can empty your bladder tube or bag, when no suitable loo is available…

Mine’s been emptied (discreetly of course) in shop corners, in car park drains, on trains, in a cinema whilst watching a film!

See…your world will suddenly improve vastly!

Hey Shazzie

Wishing you a speedy recovery and a smooth painless op.

Hope you’ll update us on Monday

Hahaha. Frances and Poll. You really made me laugh.

Emptying on horseback F. You can’t leave it there. Lol!!!

And Poll. You made me laugh. I hope when you emptied in the cinema you chose a loud moment in the film.

And Sonia. I will post a thread as soon as I get back. The nurse said I would be able to leave 1 - 2 hours after op.

Thanks again lovelies for your support
