Hi does anyone have a stoma bag fitted for bladder incontinence and how successful has it been. I’m asking because I have an option to have the operation as previous treatments are no longer effective. Where does the bag sit and how often do you have to empty it? Also I have read you are prone to bladder infections, which I already get a lot of. Would appreciate people opinion or sharing their experience of them.
Hi Jillie
Do you mean a suprapubic catheter? I don’t have one, but others on here do have or have had them.
No I dont think do. Its just a bag fitted on the outside that replaces your bladder. It can be attached to your waist or leg.
Hello, don’t have a stoma bag and to be honest had never heard of them. However, I looked it up and if you haven’t already found this website then the link below might be useful ( and Association providing support for people with stoma bags)
Hi Jillie, I have bladder incontinence and have done for a good few years, I have Botox injections every 5mths to help with the urgency and it does upto a point, I did have a supra pubic catheter fitted, but it kept bypassing and causes so many problems I had it removed, I was still having to have Botox done too, I’ve been told that in time I will probably need a permament bag fitted, I have never been offered a stoma bag and I feel like TheresaB, stoma bags are for the bowel, my sister had one when she had bowel cancer, so I will be interested to read anymore replies you get on this.
Good luck to you,
Jean x
Hi Jean thank you for your reply. Yes I had botox injections for several years but unfortunately they stopped being effective, which apparently can happen. I think its called a urostomy and is an opening in the tummy that drains constantly into a bag.
Thanks for replying, I have had a look at the info, yes some interesting articles.
Oh WOW @Jillie , I’ve just read about this, very interesting. I’ve been having Botox for about 10yrs now and I must admit of late I’ve felt that it isn’t having the affect that it once was, I’m due for another round come August. I did think that I would have to go down the road of either a permanent bag, or the suprapubic again, but maybe this is an option. Would be good to hear of your experience.
Good luck, Jean x
I’ve got a supra pubic which is fitted to a leg bag. I think you’ll find that’s your option
