Spondylosis OR MS?

Hello all,

I am 30 years old. I’ve had sciatica and cervical spondylosis since 2018. Sciatica is thought to be a result of 2 bulging discs in lumbar area (not bulging enough to operate apparently) and spondylosis is hereditary. I recently experienced left leg numbness with pins and needles, frequent falls, dizziness, severe fatigue, increased urinary urgency and frequency, difficulty swallowing, migraines, blurred vision and brain fog (it’s like my brain is doing a reboot at random times). I started with symptoms around 2 weeks ago and after 3 days of dragging my left leg around, I gave in and went to hospital. They admitted me on Cauda Equina pathway and did full spine MRI with contrast and brain scan after discussion with neuro team. The orthopaedic team discharged me on Monday as Dr says “it’s not an orthopedic issue” and sent urgent referral to neurology team as they had asked to see me. My copy of the referral letter arrived today and it says normal brain scan but syrinx noted on thoracic spine?! Is this my spondylosis? I haven’t been ill or had an injury so doubt it’s infection related and the only thing I can think is MS or worse. But I thought MS had to be present on a brain scan as well? Any ideas would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I was diagnosed with primary progressive MS in 2020. I don’t have any lesions in my brain, but I do have 5-6 on my spinal cord. I was also diagnosed with cervical spondylosis. My vertebrae are growing inwards in my neck area. Depending on where the spondylosis is will give different symptoms ie. Mine is in the neck area so I get pain and numbness across my shoulder down my right arm, hand and fingers. If your spondylosis is further down your spine this may present you with problems lower down in your body such as the leg problems you seem to have. I am on a waiting list to have my spondylosis sorted, in the meantime, I take Gabapentin for pain relief. I was also diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia in 2017. I have just uploaded a video to YouTube where I speak openly about my health conditions and enjoy life while I can. the last video was about my MS and my Spondylosis. I hope you get your answers. Speaking about MS

Hi,
I was diagnosed both with MS and lumbar spondylosis, your journey is pretty much the same as mine even the query cauda equina as I’ve also bladder and bowel issues. The letter I received from consultants said the MS and lumbar spondylosis was a lot to take in such a short appointment. I see my MS nurse every 12 weeks for bloods as I’m on vumerity and to check how I’m doing, plus OT and physiotherapist. My one year appointment is this Monday so fingers crossed.

Thank you for replying. How long did it take to get MS diagnosis if you don’t mind me asking? I’m currently awaiting referral to neurology.

My initial appointment Neurologist said in my opinion it’s MS after he did his assessment… Had full head and spine MRI two days later. Had to attend our of hours at hospital a couple of weeks later as I couldn’t walk and the doctor said would you mind if I check your MRI results,as my appointment with neurology was the next day I didn’t see any problem. Doctor came back and said…well your consultant was spot on,and that’s when my crazy MS journey started

Hi, thank you for replying again. I am currently struggling to walk and am worried I could be left like this for months before I see a neurologist. Its reassuring to know neurology are relatively fast at reaching a diagnosis though. Thank you again!
