speech problems

I suddenly started to have speech problems, difficultly getting words and being understood. My upper lip does not seem to move when I try to talk. Has anyone experience this before. It’s my first relapse since 5 years when I was told I had ms. How long will this relapse last and do you get the speech back to normal. Pls help

Janan,

If I were you, I’d consult my Neuro/GP/MS Nurse as soon as possible. (However, don’t be surprised if this doesn’t get treated as an urgent matter, as it’s not likely to cause physical harm if not addressed immediately). At least you’ll get professional advice right away!!

My speech started to be affected more than two years ago, becoming more & more hesitant and being totally unable to say certain words anymore.

My immediate thought was that the tiny muscles, used to shape the mouth/tongue in pronouncing words, had been severely weakened by MS ? (…well, that was my theory but I was very quickly told by GP & Neuro that this was wrong - yet here I am 2 years laater still experiencing the same difficulty with speaking !!)

Good luck with your medical professional, hope you’re able to see someone quickly ?!!

Hello Janan

I have problems pronouncing words sometimes and getting them mixed up. For some reason, the word that’s in my head, comes out of my mouth in a jumble…sometimes rude

Can only agree with Dom’s advice above.

Take care x

Dom! is your avatar a puffin, or is it my eyesight that’s dodgy?

Blossom,

My avatar is actually a kitten - head bowed - carrying two buckets (…my slave!!)

Dom

Oooops!! I’m on the phone to specsavers tomorrow

Thanks, I have got an appointment with neuro in June, I did go to hospital last week and got checked out and they said It’s mild dysarthric. I’ve just got wait and spk to Neuro and hping my speech comes back to normal.

Hi janan

If this proves to be an ongoing problem you can ask your GP/MS nurse to refer you to a speech therapist, who can give you exercises to help

Good Luck
