spasms

hello all,let me tell you a little story, ive had a problem for almost two years now and at times its driven me nuts as well as keeping me up all night, spasms in the legs, first the left leg then the right or vice versa or just the right or the left leg,its woken me up in the middle of the night, while im watching telly trying to relax, first thing in the morning just as i open my eyes,it wont let you lie there you have to get up,while im eating, showering you name it ive had it.

ive tried amertriptylene they have been the best so far, diazapam, they took me off these pretty sharpish ,even though they worked pretty good, some others i cant remember theire names and im on a new one now called clonazepam,it seems to be working ok,but for how long who knows.

any way thats enough of my whinging.what i would like to know, is somebody out there thats found a drug thats worked for you.

any ideas or comments would be most welcome.cant type any more my good hand and one finger are tired

all the best and keep smiling den

Anyone have thoughts to share on Magnesium Oil?

I have been spraying and massaging all over the knees and tummy area every day after showering, for the last three weeks.

Knees feel a little stiffer, but tummy hug is seeming to weaken.

Overall no wondrous change.

It`s baclofen for me for spasms and spasticity. 30mg at night

I get around 80% relief.

I take amitriptyline for nerve pain. 75mg at night. 100% relief!

hi den

sorry like everyone else baclofen and amitriptyline

seems to ease for bit then comes back now and again

hope you get balance right and eases

steve

Hi I found that Magnesium sulphate works for me. I take 375mg at night. I’m on Amitryptiline and Gabapentin as well but they didn’t stop the spasms at night. There’s no side effects with Magnesium as long as you don’t take too much, then you’ll be running to the loo. Hope you get some relief soon.

hi , do any of you suffer from edema or pitted edema (swelling of ankles etc…) . i have been taking furosemide 1x40mg a day (water tablets/diaretics) since july 2012. the swelling is going down and the frequency and strength of the spasms in my legs came down with it has anyone else experienced this ? my daily medication is 2x amantadine 10mg , 6x baclofen 10mg , 1x sertraline . i had been taking gabapentin but my new neurologist took me off them as too many side effects . i stopped straight away at his request and did not have any reaction doing this i feel they werent doing anything 1 less tablet to take .

Hello everyone, i went to see the neuro 2 weeks ago and he has put me on a new drug for my restless legs/spasms, it is called Rotigotine.

It is used to treat Parkinsons apparently, don’t want that on top of my MS, but it seems to be working as i am having less spasms now so it will be interesting to see if it works long term, it is adminstered via a patch.

Hope everyone is as well you can be with the MS monster lurking, keep smiling and think happy thoughts and stay possitive.

Hi Mark, I have heard of it and heard it’s very good.

Let us know how you get on.

Lovely positive post… thanks…

I’m having a dizzy day. On a very rocky boat. Hopefully will shout LAND AHOY before long!

Pat x

Hi Pat

throw that anchor in and have a rest, lay down and close your eyes, you need to rest the boat will calm down and the land will be there when you open your eyes again.

On my days of dizzeness that is what my wife tells me to do and it in the main it tends to work, i find trying to fight it makes it worse and then you pay the price later as you are picking yourself up off the floor, very embarrasing when it happens at work!

Well take it easy and speak soon

Love

hi dencan… i too was on baclofen. doc stopped it 'cos they were going to give me a baclofen pump. changed my medication to Dantrium 25mg active ingredient gelule Dantrolene [its french made] 1 capsule 3 times a day, plus Stedon active ingredient Dazepam 5mg, half a tablet in the morning, again in the afternoon and one at night. plus of course Gabapentin 400mg 3 times a day and Magnessium 3 phials a day. after being on them for a year had a check-up and doctor, after twisting pushing and pulling legs said i no longer needed the pump. this year for the last 8-9 months not had any spasticity just a twinge or two to remind me not to forget its presence. [ you can imagine the strength of the spasticity it curved the tail end of my spine [scoliosis]. if you have a bad attack and you’ve got someone with you lie down on your back and get the person to bend your knees and slowly push them both up towards your chest. that’s the only way i could get my muscles to relax. that worked for me but doesn’t mean it will for others. forgot to say for the last 4+ years have been on Tysabri for starters every month and now every 6 weeks. MRI’s show i’m stationery, no new lesions,or old ones getting bigger. hopefully waiting for stem-cells but i doubt i’ll be in time. regards angela from sunny Greece.
