The timing I gave was for a mixture using 6oz of flour, 3oz margarine, 3oz sugar, 1 egg and 4 tablespoons milk. (For chocolate replace 1oz flour with 1oz cocoa powder). You can add jam or golden syrup to the bottom of the greased pudding basin. Or sultanas scattered through the mixture, or 1 tsp of ground ginger (and perhaps some chopped stem ginger to the mixture.
Put a jam pudding in an hr ago, justvas your recipe Tracey. Will update how it turns out. Silly question but do you put chocolate peices or chocolate spread in the bottom of the pudding for a chocolate one and could I please have the rice pudding recipe xx
Slow cookers are really bsic machines so cheaper is as likely to do the job as expensive.
We have a crock-pot which was a present but is a cheaper brand and this one was and end of line almost certainly came from the Argos discount warehouse .
One cooking tip - don’t put carrots in at the start of a casserole - they go rather unappealingly mushy.
For a chocolate pudding, you just replace 1oz of flour with cocoa powder. You then have chocolate flavoured sponge.
Rice pudding - 3oz pudding rice (can also use macaroni or tapioca for variations), 1.5 pints milk, warmed until almost boiling, 1.5 oz sugar, grated nutmeg to taste, 1.5 oz butter.
Wash rice (macaroni or tapioca) and drain Butter the crock pot. Place in all ingredients and stir well. Cook on high for 3 hours.
For a creamier pudding, substitute a 6 fl oz (170 g) can of evaporated milk for the same amount of milk.
Thank you Tracey, had jam pudding on saturday and rice pudding last night. I popped in in the oven for 10 mins at the end and it was so good. So much for me trying to be gluten and fat free, oh well I suppose its nearly christmas so can have some treats xx zoe
Zoe - I’ve been thinking about the chocolate pudding and you’ve given me an idea for a double chocolate pudding. Add cocoa powder to the sponge mixture and stir some chocolate chips through as well. I may have to give that a try …
You can make chocolate custard by adding a tablespoon of cocoa to Bird’s custard powder and then making it in the usual way by following the instructions on the tin. Add the cocoa when you mix the custard powder to a paste with a little milk.
Perfect winter comfort food.
As you can tell, we have very basic main course meals - casseroles, cottage pie, etc but we have wonderful cakes and puddings lol
recently I’ve stopped using slow cooker and bought a multi cooker and really happy with it. the model I have is redmond M10 and its 3L bowl is perfect for two people. well I cook ( or it cooks) almost everything - puddings, yoghurt, rice, omelet, pasta, meat and I like to steam vegetables a lot… I don’t remember the price but it wasn’t expensive, about 70
