Skin sensitivity

Does anyone experience skin sensitivity? I have it on my back and the front of my thighs. It makes my skin feel sore I suppose, but I don’t feel like I have pain inside, as in my muscles aren’t hurting. It’s been ongoing for a few weeks now and now showing signs of easing yet. Any suggestions on alleviating this?

I have this on various patches, left over from past relapses. Best thing I can think of to describe it is like patches of bad sunburn, or having accidentally touched a hot roasting tray or something. it’s definitely a MS thing in my own case – no question.

Of course, I cannot comment on what’s causing yours.

As for things that help, cold water is the main one. There used to be a terrific ointment made out of chili peppers, available on prescription, that the GP gave me once and it worked wonders. Unfortunately, they don’t seem to make it anymore.

I suffer with skin sensitivity and a rash usually shows wherever the itching is. I went to A&E several times but no real help. Eventually GPS sent me to a dermatologist. Nerve endings are super sensitive cos of my PPMS and Steroid cream was the only cure for me.
The irritation still happens but is controlled with the Steroid cream within 48hrs.

Speaking to your MS Nurse or Neurologist can help you. I’ve found GPs have limited knowledge about the intricacies of MS so they refer you elsewhere anyway.
Good Luck

Thank you. Do you get this when you’re active or in a relapse or is it with you all the time? Mine has been present a couple of months almost now.

I don’t have relapses with PPMS, it’s a slow but constant deterioration so there’s no remissions either.

I never know from one day to the next what will happen. I just find red blotches on various parts of my body. Never painful but sometimes very, very itchy.

Been to A&E twice this year with these problems. First turned out to be shingles which became very painful (I had shingles when I was 13). Second time it was extreme Hives where itchiness was unbearable.

I’d advise you see your GP very soon and stay determined until the problems you’re experiencing are treated. Good luck Joanna.

Totally feel you! In Canada, the cold, dry winters and hot summers can really mess with sensitive skin. I’ve found fragrance-free products, a humidifier in winter, SPF year-round, and avoiding super hot showers make a big difference. If it’s getting worse, a dermatologist (via family doc referral) can help.
