I have been experiencing pain in my gums for a few weeks and have made several visits to see a dentist, one of the dentists (I’ve seen two) thinks the pain could be coming from my sinuses and said I should try using a Steam Inhaler and Olbas Oil and the other dentist said something about maybe it was my MS making me think where the pain’s coming from. Has anyone reading this experienced anything similar and if so how did you resolve it?
Thank you in advance for any replies,
Jacqueline
I’m having some trouble, and my dentist questioned me carefully about how it responded to NSAIDS and antibiotics. ‘Fairly well to both’ convinced him that whatever’s going on, it isn’t a CNS problem. It is a good thing to check. I’ve read on here about people who have lost perfectly healthy teeth, when it was actually trigeminal neuralgia all along. A good dentist should certainly be excluding MS as a possibility in an MS patient.
The pain I’m experiencing feels as if I’m chewing broken glass, and yes taking paracetamol and ibuprofen together does help (paracetamol alone doesn’t) but, I don’t want to keep taking these pain killers as I also have bursitis in one of my hips and take those pain killers to ease that pain.
I used to experience excruciating pain behind one of my eyeballs which I thought was a migraine attack which many years later I discovered that could have been trigeminal neuralgia, that pain was long-lasting where-as the pain in my mouth is short and sharp.
If it is TN, then it might be worth taking B12 for a while and see if helps to ease the problem. No harm in trying before resorting to the more unpleasant drugs.

Yes. I’ve also been to the dentist a couple of times as it really felt like it was dental but he assured me everything is fine. So I’m assuming it is an MS or sinus thing and it passes on its own after a few days. Uncomfortable while it’s going on though so I sympathise.
Thank you, no-one in my immediate family who I see every day seems to understand or thinks I’m making a fuss over nothing, at least someone knows what I’m going through, I have another appointment with dentist next week so hopefully the pain will stop soon.
