shortbreak/holiday help

Hi anyone hope some one can help me feel a little better about being a carer with what seems to be like a run around.

My hubby who I love dearly suffers with SPMS and was diagnosed 2006/7 he is not good on his own at all and the worry and stress we have had most recently through forms medical evidence, has been horendes and very intimadatng. My heart feels shot by it all and to add insult when I asked if I the carer can ask for funds towards a short break holiday when I feel I should be able to.

I do not work due to Stephens limitations and were ever he needs to go travel I am their fully all day most days. My moan is that about 4 years ago I asked for some small donation for a 3 night stay in a hotel happily it was accepted but the fund came not to me but to hubby. ? Then last year our daughter paid for a holiday basics/accommodation plus travel car and I requested a donation for our flights. Again my moan was not that we were might be refused but it came once again in hubbies name.

Today I sent a notary asking if I his carer can request funds for a personal short - break but noted hubby would travel as he would not want not to be left. Only to be advised that as he has been the previous applicant then it would be better coming from him?

Do I matter?. Is it just that MS applicants sale through the system were as carer might get a definite no.

be glad for any ones input on the subject of carer requesting short-breaks through MS society.org.uk

Hi my hubby us my main carer (unpaid as he is in receipt of the state pension). I get respite funding, to enable me to take short breaks. He has enquired about getting some funding to allow him to go for a break.

He was told a carer’s assessment could be made, but it would bring no money at all. It could send him on courses in how to look after himself! That isn’t what he wants.

It’s a catch 22 situation, isn’t it?

Yes and thank-you for letting me in the know.

i do understand that charity have criteria and the one we fit in is MS for hubby my gripe was that when I got help for a short break the moment hubby got the cheque even though we discussed a break for me by the sea. no sooner had we recived the cheque in his name only he did a turn around and we went some were he wanted to go fishing not my idea of relaxation. So I did not get any rest carrying baskets and fishing tackle.

Just feel swindled some times and abused.

Yeh, carers save the country millions and are not recognised nearly enough!
