Hi
I’ve just had a phone call from my Specialist MS Nurse. She is arranging for me to have a month’s trial of Sativex but she said it would only be available privately after that as it costs £300 per month. I had already spoken to my GP and he said he would prescribe it for me. So it looks like I’m finally going to be able to try this stuff. I hope it works because the Baclofen isn’t doing me any good.
I’m just worried that my doctor’s practice manager will block it when they realise the cost. Anyone know how these things work?

I would imagine the trial is free to the GP surgery too. If the company stands to gain a potentially lifelong private customer, at £300 p.m, does it hurt them to offer a one month free trial as bait?
300 a month would be cheaper to buy a oz of weed !
Wow! Who can afford £300 a month?
It`s all wrong this mallarkey…if our GP thinks we should have a certain drug and will prescribe it, why do we have to pay for it privately? I really dont understad this.
I asked about it and was told a definite NO…our health authority wont prescribe it.

Hi
When I asked my GP he’d never heard of it. He Googled it while I was in his office. He just said, yep, it’s an approved drug and he would prescribe it as long as I got the OK from the hospital. My MS nurse seemed surprised by this as most GPs won’t prescribe it because of the cost. Which makes me suspect my GP will change his mind when it comes to prescription time. Do GPs have a budget that they have to account for?
At least I’m getting a free month’s trial so I’ll know if it works or not.
Thanks for your replies
