Hi Trish
Sorry I dont know what happens in Scotland, but down south it appears to be a postcode lottery whether you can get this on prescription or not.

thanks Pam,
think it is a blanket ban up here , but you can get your MP to push it just wanted to see if anyone was successful with this route
Private prescription is required AND that is a mine field! Your Neurologist would have to sign off on this, it’s the Consultant who has to help, I wish you luck it did bu££er all for me. Take care M
My GP is talking to my rehab consultant In Glasgow about Sativex for me as I’ve tried just about every drug to help with spasms, muscle tone and pain with no joy and horrendous side effects. It was my physio who put me on to this as he found out that consultants in Glasgow have been prescribing it. Doc is happy to prescribe but wants advice before going ahead.
Hi Trish, I was able to get a private prescription from my previous GP, I did find it helped a little but to be honest not enough to warrant the price. My existing practice treated me as though I was asking for heroine when I asked if they would continue to prescribe it. I couldn’t have used it on a regular basis but I had hoped to be able to use it occasionally when the going got too tough. Hope you can try it soon and that it helps you. Best wishes, Nina
thanks all for your replies, having a bit of a issue, had to see Neurologist private because NHS made a mess of appointment they said they would provide anothe appointment with anothe neurologist, when they sent this out i had already seen this lady in the past she herself agreed her MS knowledge was sketchy to say the least, however NHS representative said that is nonsense as they all have experience of MS. So guess the neurologist was telling fibs, seriously thinking of complaining but having volunteered in the CAB know it is a waste of time, also trying to get a hold of MS nurse with not much success.

Trish, that must have been so stressful for you! Sadly I do think you’re right about not complaining, I don’t think complaints against the NHS ever achieve anything other than more stress for you! Any news re sativex? Nina
igonically I sent another email to MS nurse followed by a voice message on her phone, it seemed to put her in motion as she phoned me at 5pm on friday night however was driving at the time so will call her monday morning to discuss options
Fingers crossed for you Trish for Monday.

welll eventuallly got a hold of MS nurse, and Sativex is not licensed by the Scottish Health Board. So privately is only option
Do what my neuro told me, get the real. Told me he did not need the paper work! Sativex is really expensive and u will get the Run
around from the health prof and suddenly u are 12 plus months down the track and your pain is worse! Just my exp.
hi Jam
My gp has said this to me for years every time i try something else that doesn’t work she said make a cake as she knows i dont smoke. You have to laugh because bureaucracy is mad, and i would love for the ones that say but it hasn’t been licensed to have a day in my shoes. When I got this at first my mother-in-law said prepare to fight as she has a son who has cerebal palsy and had fought for years to get him the support he needed. She wasn’t wrong

Your mil is right Trish, although it shouldn’t be that way, good job we all have the support and advice of one another on here.

With the exception of my present GP, every health professional I have seen since dx has recommended the real thing!! Nina
