Last night I got really bad shooting pain in the left side of my chest. When I felt there my ribs from in line with armpit right the way to the centre were amazingly painful to touch like I’d been kicked in them. Without touching site just a dull ache with occasion of shooting pain. No injury or anything. Does this sound relevant like a hug or have I done something I wonder Axx
I’ve had similar, Arwen. It made me unable to draw a normal breath but I found that if I press gently but firmly where the pain was, after a few moments I could breathe normally again. DIY acupressure! Is yours too sensitive to do this? Not sure if it would help.
I tried pressure that made it much worse. No where near as bad today almost gone Axx
I had a terrible pain in the middle of my chest last night too, it was central for a while then travel upto my clavical bone and up to my right ear, it lasted almost an hour. It hurt.
I guess the question you are asking is: ‘is this a cramp / strained muscle that can happen to anyone’, or ‘is this asymptom of MS’.
I had the exact same discussion with my husband last night. I have a lot of pain in my rib / chest area - and do have diagnosis of CIS - so I often wonder & worry if it is the MS hug. But also, another part of me thinks ‘I’m sure people ithout MS experience cramps / muscle strains from time-to-time’ … and then I get worried that I am blowing normal things out of proportion and being a bit of a hypochondriac! silly really. I think the biggest part of me suspects it probably is MS-related, but I’m not totally sure, and question / doubt myself a lot.
I get a lot of pain in my ribs/chest, often accompanied by tingling/numbness, extreme tenderness and a horrible tightness that makes me feel as if I can’t breathe properly.
Strangely enough, I had a horrible pain in one spot on my back in between my ribs last night that lasted all evening and most of the night.
It’s horrible, isn’t it, when we have no idea what’s causing all these weird things?
Really hope you’re feeling better soon, Arwen xx
Thanks. It is odd when you don’t know what is going on. I think it was the severity of the pain that bothered me the most it was awful and tender to touch which again made me start tracking through my head for what I had done ie slipped in shower. I also then wonder well is it relevant for neuro or not. At least its gone now so that is good Axx
I’m just going to throw all the puzzle pieces at the neuro and let them sort out if they all belong to the same picture or not. These pains that come and go don’t seem like strains, though. Pulled muscles take time to heal, don’t they? Pulled ligaments take even more time (I bent my ankle over two years ago and apparently is still isn’t quite healed!) So I’m convinced that these on/off pains are not muscle strains. With chest pain, its probably sensible to mention it anyway, Arwen. xxx
Not to frighten you or anything, but if you had MRI with contrast GAD, it could be a sign of NSF caused by that contrast.

Highly unlikely though, as NSF is a rare complication, targeting people with kidney problems.
Feel better soon!
Worried about it too, Arwen.
