Radiotherapy and MS

I have had secondary progressive ms for over 40 years. I have recently undergone an operation to remove non-cancerous cells from my breast and am being offered radiotherapy as a preventative measure. Has anyone had radiation and what were the after effects.

Hi ruthyoungn4

So sorry to hear about your situation and I wish you well going forward.

I had breast cancer in September 2023 and underwent 5 sessions of radiotherapy in 2024. I was very well supported throughout and the radiology team arranged my sessions 2 before and 3 after a weekend to help me manage my fatigue, ( Im PPMS diagnosed in 2022).

We’re used to the debilitating fatigue but I was actually ok during the treatment. Approximately 3 weeks later it really hit me and that’s when I took to my bed as I was struggling.

My advice would be, loads of water to drink, I used Aveeno moisturiser on the treatment area (constantly!! ), and rest rest rest

Please take care and do whatever your team suggest.
Best wishes
