Power recliner or power lift recliner?

After trying out all the chairs in our home, I’ve found one that is “legal” after surgery. I would like to get a power recliner chair, as I already have trouble sleeping. After my THR, I’ll be headed for TKR. I’d love some advice on recliners. Will I need to have the lift feature or will a power recliner be suitable? I’m 5’4" if that makes a difference.

I’ve recent bought two Riser Recliner Chairs, one for me and one for my Dad.

We settled on HSL Asguard chairs and bought both second hand. £1800+ new, we paid £250 for one and £300 for the other. Have a look on Facebook Marketplace and search for “HSL Rise Recline Chair”. You’ll be astounded how many there are in a 15-mile radius of you.

Chairs are worth next to nothing second hand and sellers can be quite unrealistic about true value. Both our chairs were bargains in good condition but you need to tour round to see a few. You don’t one that’s grubby or smelly, do you?

Make sure you get a Dual Motor model for independent control of backrest and leg extension. HSL are British made and come in a variety of sizes from Super Petite to Grande. I’m 1.80m and 115kg and got the Grande. My Dad is 1.74m and 85kg and was happier with a standard. I’m 62 with PPMS, he’s 92 and just old! Pays to do your research: a fair few cheap imports out there not made to the same quality as HSL and other UK brands which all retail around £2000+ new, whereas the imports start from below £1000. Buy second had though!
