Hi Janice again, I just last week had to claim pip, I was on dla care and mobility high rate, it was indefinate award and I have a motability car, I am terrified they will take my car and I will not be able to claim pip, I can walk but I use sticks, my walking has got worse and my husband heeds to do everything now for me, my ms has recently been changed by my specialist from rrms to spms, my pain is with me 24/7. I have no life any more I exist I have no life, my family have disowned me and my husband is here as my daughter told me to get careers allowance and a roof over his head.the only time I feel I can do something for myself is when I am in my car, terrified I will not qualify for pip, how long does it take for them to decide if I will qualify.

I was on highest rate for mobility and middle rate for personal care indefinitely, but had deteriorated since that was awarded. I’m now on the highest rate for both, but it was only granted for three years from the date of application, and it was only payable from several weeks after the assessment, so I have to do it all again in 2018. Have you already completed your form? I got help from a local charity with completing mine, but he only filled in the answers I gave him. Like DLA tell it like it is on your worst days. I get around home on crutches, slowly and with difficulty. Everywhere else I have to use a wheelchair.
At the face to face assessment, which was nowhere near as bad as I feared I was asked to describe how I manage washing, showering, dressing, toilet needs, eating, food preparation. I was asked about hobbies and interests, computer and mobile phone use. The only physical part was to squeeze the assessors hand, show her how I walk, I only took about five steps, she’d seen enough by then. The other which I can’t do at all was to put my heel across to the front of my ankle on the opposite leg and slide it up to my knee, both legs.
I attended an assessment in my home town, only a couple of miles from where I live. The chap from the charity had told me that if I got an appointment out of the area to ring immediately and say I wasn’t able to travel that far, and ask for one nearer home.
i no longer drive, so my husband took me and remained with me. It might be useful to have someone with you to remind you of anything you may forget to mention, easily done if you find it stressful.
Hope it works out for you.

Oh, I forgot I got the letter telling me it had been awarded about two weeks after my assessment. The whole thing start to finish was about six weeks I think.
