Peristeen

I’ve been using Peristeen now for 3 or 4 months, sometimes it works well and sometimes it doesn’t! I don’t see my nurse for a couple of weeks so I thought I’d ask you for some advice.

Sometimes the water leaks around the balloon even though I’ve inflated the balloon by 4 pumps (and it hasn’t burst). This means I have to deflate the balloon, let the rest of the water out and start the process again. Then I can get a feeling of fullness where it is uncomfortable to add any more water and I end up doing the process maybe 3 times with smallish amounts of water rather than it all going in at once.

I’m assuming that this may be the problem and I’m not getting a full clear out when I do it. On what should be my day off I can still feel the need to go. Or like today, after using it this morning I’ve had to go 3 or 4 times to pass a little bit more (over about 3.5 hours)

Although, on the whole I prefer it to qufora it hasn’t solved the problem of emptying my bowel when I choose to and I still feel as if I need to stay close to the loo!

Any advice?

I use Qufora Most days, do you use any laxatives as well? I use one sachet of of movicol after my evening meal sometimes more. Don

When l used the peristeen - l found l needed to have the water much warmer then l first tried - and l always held the balloon part in all of the time l was using it - this meant l did not have to inflate the balloon quite so much that it made it uncomfortable - or the balloon burst. You need to insert the balloon part as far in as you can - and hold it there. Pump in as much water as you can.

Hope you have better results.
