been for my 3 yearly mammogram this morning. i know, it is a very important check, but it was sooo painful!
With me in a wheelie, they have to pull and stretch and sqeeeeeze me. The machinery stuck in my ribs, sternum and I grimaced but held my breath when they said OK? They said id done very well dear`.
I was told that some areas have gone digital and the procedure is easier to work with. They said there will still be lots of squashing, but it is quicker.
So it`s done. My sympathies to all the ladies here, who have and are going through breast cancer.
The 50 - 70 age group for testing is being widened to 40 - 75. Sounds better, but I know a lot of woman find lumps much earlier than 40 even.
hopefully the whole system will cover more of us in the future.
Sympathy from me too. I had mine done a couple of months ago and it was horrible and I’m not in a wheelchair.
My Mum is recovering from a mastectomy due to breast cancer and because of our family history (6 of them!) I’m going through the process of genetic testing.
My Mum’s was picked up from a routine mammogram and she had the news last week that it hadn’t spread and that was because it was picked up so early.
Poll, that happened to me the time before last. This time a few months ago she said I moaned a lot. Well I said so would males if their meat and two veg were clamped so tight they were flattened. She said men do go through pain, well I know I said but honestly my boobs are not that shape and dont want to be. Needless to say Ill not be going back for another one, not very good at having my mamories squashed into pancakes.
It bloomin well hurts doesnt it poll, ribs, chest wall and flattened boobs take some tender loving care to mould back into their rounded shape.
Why cant they make a machine which fits, instead of flattens? I would have liked to have flattened and man handled hers like mine were. A very memorable experience I would say.
Dear Poll, that sounds really rough, and I hope you fully recover. Before I read your post, the title had me thinking you’d been playing rugby…again. The way I’m going I’ll be getting summonsed for a mammograb, and I might as well take a ‘Pick of Poo’ with me,judging by one of the other posts.
Thanks everyone for your contributions to my post.
Bren…you MUST go for your 3 yrly checks. As horrible as it is, I`ll still go for mine.
BUT, the radiographer told me they have gone digital in Bradford and hudds would be following suit. I asked what the difference is. She said we would still get squashed, but it wouldnt hurt so much and is much quicker. That`s good news, eh?
