Osteopathy

Hi all

My cousin is a physiotherapist working in Canada. She’s just given me a visit, and was harping on about Osteopathy being the best thing for chronic pain. Apparently, they focus mostly on getting people off medication where they can. My chronic pain specialist has never even suggested this treatment. I’ve only ever had physiotherapy in the past.

Has anyone found this treatment effective? …Is it easily available on NHS?

Would love to hear what its like.

hiya

i have monthly cranial osteopathoy sessions. not on nhs. £35 for a home visit-which she doesnt normally do but does for me.

i should point out that i know a bit about energy work and am sensitive to it so i know exactly what she is doing-not everybody does. not that u need to know-just trust ur therapist.

i know, and so does she, when my membranes are tight/not flowing freely. this strain causes a whole load of pr.obs with humans in general.

as with everything some think its a load of rubbish-each to their own of course but its something i did 8 yrs ago then stopped and restarted 18 ish months ago wishing i had continued…

Hello Almond

I’m trained in Reiki and indian head massage. I think alternative therapies, work great alongside conventional medicine.

I’m always wary of treatments/therapies that mention getting people off prescribed medication. Would this be done under the advice of gp/specialist? if so, then maybe its something to consider.

Good luck

There’s some information on the NHS Choices website (Osteopathy - NHS). There may be osteopaths working in the NHS but they’re probably few and far between - your MS nurse may know if there’s one in your area. I think the majority work outside the NHS - there’s one based in the arcade of shops near my home.

I hadn’t thought of osteopathy in connection with MS and I guess whether it’s likely to work will partly depend on what the root cause of your pain is.

I’m always a little wary of anything that claims to work wonders, but then I’m a cynic. On the other hand, I have had reiki a few times (though not since I was diagnosed) because I find it helps make me feel better in myself.

In your shoes, I think I’d consider trying osteopathy but I wouldn’t stop taking any prescribed medication without talking to either my GP or my neuro.

Many thanks to Ellie, Noreen and Mitzi,

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. I will definately look into it, even though I dont think Im ever going to be able to get of medication, as I have too many illnesses together. Im not diagnosed with MS yet, still early days, so at the moment I’m abit of a mystery. I will talk to my neuro about Oesteopathy , see if he can let me have it on NHS.

Thanks for your support
