Newbie - confused, worried just would like help and answers !

Hi everyone, this is my first post on here and I have read in great depth and sympathise with a lot of you out there, I’m hoping someone else may be able to relate to my symptoms and advise me further as to where I should go next as I don’t want to keep going over the same old ‘pump him full of tablets, he’ll go away then’ scenario. 2 years ago I developed what could be described as a dull back ache that quickly developed over a period of a couple of months to more serious, worrying conditions that put me in hospital. This dull ache developed and affected my balance and was so bad I was unable to walk without crutches, I had usual physio, acupunct, etc but no real response was made. Next I started suffering loss of vision in one or both eyes for a period of a few hours at a time and started hyperventilating and convulsing these episodes settled after being taken in hospital. I was placed under a neurologist who did various tests including MRI, bloods etc, and after lots of umming and arring, he decided that even with symptoms of MS he was going to put it down to cluster migraines… I now currently take sodium valproate, tramadol, naproxen and zopiclone due to permanent insomnia. I would say that these have controlled individual symptoms pretty well up until a month ago where numerous times in a period of one day, and then over a few weeks I keep getting an excruciating shock like pain in my neck when I turn my head, this then affects my balance and vision, I can only describe it as the kind of feeling you get when you turn your head too quickly, but the after affects stay for days and it is happening more frequently, the issues with my vision is affecting me again, and I’m also very lethargic and in I suppose a depressive state, even though my life is great and I have nothing really to be depressed about, I’m booked in to see my GP on fri, but it’s only when I started reading through some other peoples experiences I saw about the neck pain shock situation… Anyhow that’s my story and I’m grateful for any input or advice…

Hi and welcome

Did you get the results of your Mri? Have you a follow up appointment with the neurologist? I would have a good chat with your GP and suggest you are referred back to the Neuro. I’d also let them know how all this is impacting on your quality of life and mood. The electric shock pain in the neck sounds like it could be l’hermittes sign (I’m not an expert though!) Getting a diagnosis of anything (especially ms) can be a long process, so keep on pushing and I hope you get some answers soon and start feeling better.

Take care,

Laura
