So I’m just looking for advice. I have quite a lot of the symptoms of MS, my doctor referred me for an MRI which I had just under a week ago.
I was called into the doctors this AM to discuss the results. My GP has said my symptoms, age and the findings on the scan are pointing in the direction of MS but she is unable to confirm it has to be the neurologist that does. The scan report says, Mew foci of abnormal SI, seen in the subcortical and deep white matter of both cerebral hemispheres.
She is going to fast track a referral but has said if I’m not seen within 3 weeks and if possible go private.
I’m feeling a bit all over the place, is this the normal process. What next, is there anything I should be asking?
Sorry to hear that you are in this tough limbo. It is only my opinion (and I have no knowledge of your condition, attitude or circumstances) but the sooner you have a diagnosis from a neurologist, the sooner you can discuss treatment options which could reduce or slow the impact of your condition. If you can not get a quick appointment through NHS and you can afford it, it might be well worth it to try for a private consultation.
How long was it between your dr refering you and your MRI? How bad are your current symptoms?
It’s very hard to say what to do for the best. I went the NHS route and am now about to start treatment. It’s taken just under two years from first DRs appointment to now.
I first went to the doctors in May I believe it was, followed by two trips to a and e then a further doctors appt I was referred to the neurologists who said they wouldn’t see me without having an MRI done by my doctors first
Had the MRI in July, results were given the next day and a letter received for an ‘emergency’ appointment for 8th November I thought that was a long wait but apparently that’s very quick for neurology I’m seeing some people waiting 11/12 months
Thank you for your replies. I have been having recurring symptoms for approximately 3 years, my GPS have been doing lots of tests etc and nothing. I had a really open and honest conversation with my GP back at the start of August about how deliberating the symptoms are and she put in a referral, I had my scan the Saturday just gone.
When chatting to them today they said that routine appointments are taking a very long time. She has fast tracked my referral and said they should hopefully triage the referral and I shouldn’t wait long at all but her advice is if I have not heard anything within 3 weeks to go privately.
