New ruling for private prescriptions

Hi there Has anyone heard of this new ruling that neurologists cannot write a private prescription anymore for their NHS patients? My neuro was going to prescribe fampyra for me for the free months trial but now tells me because I am an NHS patient he’s not allowed to give me a private prescription anymore as rulings have changed, I can’t seem to find out anything about this ruling, am I been fobbed off?

I believe if you see a consultant privatly they can prescribe but you would have to pay the consultant fee of anywhere between 60 — 250 pounds.

That is how it works here anyway.

You could try ringing your local PALS at your hospital, they should be able to find out for you.

Thanks for your reply Eli I realise I could have a private consultation and do it that way but when I originally asked my neuro if I could try fampyra he said yes but I would have to visit his london clinic for him to prescribe it so I waited 3 months for the London appointment then when I went he said sorry the rules have changed and I can no longer give an NHS patients a private prescription!

That is crazy because once you saw him at his London clinic ( assuming that was a private app ) you were HIS PRIVATE PATIENT.

I have had to do it that way in the past, seeing exactly the same consultant but at the BMI private hospital, then given prescription. I am so sorry you have had this disappointment and frustration.

Wonder what the PCT view would be, as a “named” patient it might possibly be available but may involve even more waiting and stress.
