Neuro Physio for newb MSr

I was diagnosed in December of last year. Am now in care of MS nurse and consultant and now also a Neuro Physio lady who has given me core exercises to do and had a nice chap fit me with insoles for my shoes and a clever foot thingy that is basically a bungee that hooks onto a hook fitting from my ankle to my shoe which helps to lift my foot when walking which will help my gait this relieve my back ache when walking. If I can offer any advice to a newby like me it would be to ask for an nuero Physio referral, if like me, you have limb problems with your MS. Big thanks to St.Georges Tooting and Croydon University Hospital…

I was diagnosed at St Georges and had some treatments at the Mayday because it was local to me (I lived in West Norwood at the time) Who is your consultant? My eventual consultant at St Georges was fantastic (the first neuro at the Mayday was appalling though) and my MS nurse was brilliant too. The neuro physio at the Mayday was brilliant and really helped me too. I also had some sessions with a speech therapist at the Mayday too because my initial catastrophic relapse affected my speech quite badly. She helped as well. I definitely agree that when you have been diagnosed you should try to take advantage of all of the services available. Not everything might be relevant to everybody and the doctors won’t/can’t provide you with a one size fits all “MS patients package” of services. You have to be proactive and demanding to look after your health.

Hi, nice to get your reply. My MS nurse is Maria Vega Sota, my MS consultant is Dr Abdul Aziz and my Neuro Physio at Mayday (i am of an age where I can’t be arsed to keep calling it by its new name) is Jane. I also found this site so informative at the time of diagnosis. By the time I went for my post lumbar puncture results consultation I already knew about DMD drugs and even which one I wanted so I kind of bulldozed my way through the consultation and came away with DMD referral so I agree that you have to inform yourself and drive your own treatment forward.

Nice to hear form a local MSer

I used to work with the CPS in SE London at 1 time and I still can’t stop myself from calling “Croydon University Hospital” or the Mayday a slightly different name which was not exactly designed to inspire confidence - "the May-die"

Mind you, it wasn’t as bad as what King’s College A+E was nicknamed by some officers (and some staff!) I don’t think people would be happy if I tol you that. I have been in A+E at Kings and - fantastic as the staff are there - it is nothing like it looked on 24hours in A+E! Mind you, my husband’s experience of StGeorge’s A+E wasn’t like Channel 4 either!

I loved living in London but we finally decided that it wasn’t for us so we moved to just outside Cardiff in 2012. For me, the best thing I ever did.
