Hello everyone and I hope you are all well.
Another wee query and as I was looking for information on it I thought of you guys and you might be the best to ask.
I am doing my best to continue as best I can
but my mobility has regressed a bit.
We are thinking of having a wet room put in and was just wondering if any of you had experience of this.
We live in a semi detactched house and I am still managing the stairs most days and still sleep upstairs. I know I may need to have to think of stair lifts etc in future but as I am having tysabri monthly and really hoping to put a pause on this. The shower I have has a step in/out and my right leg quite often doesn’t lift for me.
Thanks for any advice and I hope you are all as good as can be.
Mary x
As posted on another thread:
Worth talking to either housing dept and/or OT (occupational therapy) within Adult Social Care Dept. These may be in a unitary authority or separate authorities (e.g. district & county council) where you live.
It’s all about waiting lists these days, due to Covid as much as anything. By involving the OT’s and getting an assessment, they may then put pressure on housing on your behalf if they regard present accommodation as unsuitable. Look on your local council website for getting an assessment or fill out a self assessment form.
If you’re lucky, your authority may be using something like Living Made Easy. By a charity called DLF, I’ve become a fan! They have a product called AskSARA which is a self-assessment version of what an OT would ask if they came out to see you. It can recommend products and if your Authority is using it, can send a copy of your report directly to the OT’s. Sometimes a recommendation can just be for handy lifestyle products but can be for more radical review of property adaptations or suitability.
Even if your local authority doesn’t have a registration to AskSARA, it can still produce a report for your own use and browsing through the products can be really useful. Being a charity, product recommendations are guided and impartial rather than using something random like Google or Amazon.
