hi i,m new to the ms forums and have mild ms since i was 23 i’m now in my 40’s, i have had 3 attacks which was the usual thing of tingling in the arms and legs and lost of movement and cordination and than after treatment of steriods i wa okay and have been okay for a very long time, but lately i got a numb tongue and gums which felt like i had just been to the dentist so i igmored it and carried on as normal as nothing else was effected but than i tried to go to work and my emotions took over and wouldn’t let me and so i had to go home. My husband came home from his job and is a wonderful support and stayed home for a couple of days and i did go to the doc’s but they couldn’t find anything wrong as he did the corordination test and bladder test but there was nothing wrong and so he called my ms nurse up and they said they would call me and this is where it has gone down hill. I found out that as i hadn’t seen my nurse for 2 yrs i had been written off and would have to start again and so had to get my doc to refer me back but that takes 2 weeks, this is my 3rdweek and i do feel i’m getting better but i just feel like im going around in circles as my head feels like its finally connecting to my body but its the tirdness that doesn’t help and the loss of concentration at times and i don’t seem to be able to get help from any proffesional as i thought once you had had ms you should be on the books all the time as people with relapsing ms can’t tell when there going to relapse and going to see the nurse every few mths just to say im fine seemed to be a waste of time to me. Trying to explain how you feel, to people is hard but when the a&e say they can’t find anything wrong and put it down to a panic attack doesn’t help and all i want to do down is get better and go back to work instead of being cooped up but the way i feel i don’t know if i can manage it or not.
Hi Raistlin
Welcome to the forum - people are very good here and very supportive.
Going to A&E can be very frustrating when they can’t find anything wrong and say it’s a panic attack - I’ve had that too before I was diagnosed with MS. My GP used to say I had health anxiety.
Have you been formally diagnosed with MS? Do you take any treatment for it? You mention you’ve been treated with steroids before.
It must be a real shock if your MS has been mild for a long time and now it’s flared up again. Normally you would be getting regular check-ups from your neurologist but you say you’ve fallen off the records? Have you been referred to a neurologist? It sounds as though you should maybe push for your GP to organise this - it does sound as though you really need some help. Hope you can make contact with your MS nurse soon and ask for a neurologist appointment ASAP.
Hang on in there and perhaps you could phone the MS Society support line for some further advice on pushing your GP for referal?
Hope things improve in terms of your contact with professionals very soon.
Take care,
Fizz
