MS or Health Anxiety?

Hi

I am a 40 year old male who has been expressing symptoms of what COULD be MS but also could relate to alot of things. And just wondered what peoples thoughts were…

Eye lid twitching has been constant for 2 months now, usually comes on around 9am and lasts all day, some days better than oyhers. This happens once a year and goes away
Eye pain - pretty rare
Eye floaters - most days whilst staring at computer screen
Stomach - feeling of anxiety daily. Two bouts of chronic trapped wind in last few weeks not something i suffer with usually
Other sensations - tingling over skull, itchy bones in legs, numb little finger when waking up (arm is always in same position across my chest with elbow bent) muscle jerking when falling asleep
Urination - 2 or 3 times a night (across a 9 hour period). Otherwise quite normal unless i drink alot of liquid (alcohol) although the odd excessive bout of unrination particular when anxious
General - get tired early evening and wake up early. I do have a stressful job as a senior manager in finance. My mind is usually racing as soon as im awake. Although bave been like this all my life. Have quite a broken sleep but still usually around 9 hours. Had a panic attack on Sunday which left me pretty shook. Feeling like i have something really wrong with me. Googling those symptoms. Constantly seeling reassurance im ok. Obsessive thoughts i have MS.
Good things - no issues walking, no issues gripping things, no tremors in hands or feet, no other numbness or tingling, manage to either walk or go gym every day, no issues with strength, no blurred vision, no loss of apetite, no sensations down spine
Went to see a doc last year about eye twitching and was told it was some vitamin defficiency, which i knew it wasnt. Also went to optician. Both disregarded MS. Soon after all symptoms stopped. Recently had a bit of a traumatic day at work and things flared up again. Either that or theyre always there but my mind is relating it to something serious. Had an MRI but probably 10 years ago now when i suffered from tension headaches for a little while but that was clear at the time.
My Nan died from Parkinsons and i watched her go through a real rough time so i live in fear of illnesses like that, MS being one of them.
Would welcome your thoughts.
Thank you

Hi Mark

I am just saying hello. I dont think anybody here can tell you if you have MS.

When you said your doctor said you are low on vitamins did you have a blood test?

Hi Mark,
Yes, you might have MS based on those symptoms but go see a GP and then a referral to a neurologist and an MRI. Then you’ll know. The rest of what you describe sounds like classic anxiety / panic attacks. These aren’t MS but as consequences of MS can make people more fragile. Deal with it soon as you’re worrying yourself to death and that’s not right!

Regardless of what else might or might not be the matter, your anxiety is making you miserable by the sound of it, and (speaking as a chronic worrier) those states of prolonged chronic fight/flight are no good whatsoever for a person’s health long term. The elevated anxiety levels really are a problem and maybe they should be your health focus just now: other things might be vague, but your anxiety is plain. I’m not trying to downplay your other concerns; it just that a person needs to concentrate on one thing at a time, and finding some strategies for managing your stress levels - tough as that is to do - might bear fruit faster than trying to chase down physical symptoms before the medics are good and ready.

Hi

Thanks for your response. Yes my doc sent me for bloods thinking the flickering eye lid was due to being short on sodium but came back clear

They won’t have checked magnesium levels - they never do! That can cause muscle twitching. And anxiety depletes magnesium.

Im taking magnesium supplements now. And various others. Last time i was taking so many that when i stopped, the eye lid flickering stopped. Im pretty sure all of the ‘symptoms’ i experience have always been there but theyre amplified when i start getting this flickering eye lid snd google tells me its something serious

I stumbled upon your post and noticed it’s about a year old. I hope you’ve had some progress in your situation since then. Your symptoms and fears definitely seem overwhelming, and it’s tough when you’re not sure if it’s a specific condition like MS or generalized health anxiety.
And let’s not forget about your mental health here. Even if you’ve ruled out MS or any other physical conditions, stress and health anxiety are still things to address. There are therapy hotlines available that can provide immediate emotional support and guide you towards longer-term solutions.
Wishing you all the best and hope you found some clarity and relief over the last year.
