MS and insurance premiums

I was diagnosed with RRMS last summer; since then I’ve recently purchased my first property. During the conveyancing process, my mortgage broker was unable to provide insurance quotes due to my MS investigations ongoing at the time. Now that I have the official diagnosis, I am struggling to source suitable insurance quotes due to disclosing my condition. I have spoken to many financial advisors in the last few months who unfortunately have not been the most helpful. Nor can I obtain a suitable premium due to insurance brokers not wishing to insure me due to the potential risks of my RRMS (bearing in mind, I am continuing to live a healthy lifestyle as I have done prior to my diagnosis).
I was wondering if anyone is or has been in a similar position and had been able to find cover for life insurance, critical illness (to name a few, please note I have not had any issues obtaining travel insurance to date). Its quite concerning of the discriminatory approach to us living with the condition trying to live as normal as possible all while trying to get their finances in order.

Sad to say, but most people with MS become ineligible for life or critical illness insurance.

There would need to be a compelling body of evidence from your MS Team & others before any insurer would look at offering cover. MS is so variable in its symptoms, severity and rate of progression that depressingly, most insurers pull up the drawbridge at the merest mention of MS. Those that do make an offer might offer such punitive premiums that you might question the viability of it yourself.

Call the MS Society helpline ( number on the Society website). They will be able to advise

Thanks for your honesty, appreciate it! The discriminatory of this is unacceptable in my opinion. Whilst I understand the complex nature of MS, however we shouldn’t have to suffer the shortfall for something outside of our control.
I shall have to figure out something as we shouldn’t be discriminated against!
