Got a call from the hospital today to say i have an emergency MRI booked for next saturday at the neuros request.
Having only had the EMG friday and appt with the neuro booked for 14th Nov, i find it a little worry that this has been done so quick. They are going to scan my brain, neck, upper spine and lower spine in 4 separate stages with a time of about 2 hrs. Does this sound correct?
Im also claustrophobic and a little concerned about being in a confined space for that amount of time, so when i asked she told me to see my gp and get some diazepan.
Does anybody have any ideas?
I think the main thing is to try not to read too much into it as it could be anything from an MRI department realising that they’d forgotten to scan you in time for your neuro appointment through to you having something that is fixable if caught early. Whatever the cause, you are going to get answers quickly and that’s got to be good.
The scan time sounds about right and, yes, diazepam is a good idea if you are claustrophobic. Take some CDs with you too - it’s hard to hear them properly because of the noise from the scanner (not very tuneful!), but it might help to hear something familiar in the background. Someone once suggested an eye mask on here so that is worth considering too. Do try not to fall asleep though because it’s important to stay still!
I don’t know if it will help very much, but there is absolutely zero chance of the scanner falling on you and it is absolutely safe (assuming you don’t have a pacemaker or any loose metal on you). It’s actually safer than having an x-ray!
