Hi everyone, I have rrms. Due to have a Mri of my brain and full spine. They have said it will last 45 minutes. I have had these done before, but I just feel so shut in. I think it feels even worse because you have something placed over your head. I am having this done next week. Any ideas how to make it more easier to tolerate. Thanks in advance for any help.

I actually find the “clunk” & thump" noise of the scanner relaxing, I could easily take a cat nap in there.
Ask for music that you know you will find relaxing. If necessary take some in with you.

Like jactac, I actually quite enjoy MRIs. Although I can get claustrophobia, I’ve never had it when having a scan. I just close my eyes, smile, and enjoy the mental sounds of the scan. I always bring in my own CD for them to play down the headphones. It can never be thet loud though, so I don’t recommend music that’s relaxing -it just gets drowned out by the scanner. Something with a bit of energy is best. I always go with funk or the Go Team. You can ask for a pill to help relax you though, if needed.

Hi, I had a head and full spine MRI yesterday. The team who ran the MRI could not have been kinder - I was given ear plugs, told to relax, take my time, make sure I was going to be comfortable, given a blanket to cover my legs and feet. I have had MRIs before and find them ok. I don’t get claustrophobic- I close my eyes, and make up songs to got with the sounds (the first sound I heard was the intro to Kids in America and I found myself playing that in my head all the way through the MRI.) I also had a button to contact the team if I got distressed and they would get me out. The worst part was they struggled to remove the canula from my arm! Apparently I had visible blue veins in my head afterwards (these have gone this morning though!) You will be fine - they will look after you. They are used to seeing people who have fears of the MRI so explain that you have concerns and they will help all they can. Good luck Mrs Flute

my last MRI scan the guy seeing to me was more nervous than me - at the last minute he clamped on the headphones - Radio 2? Jeremy Vine Show - topic under discussion - cost of funerals - aaargh!
The sounds of the scanner are far more preferable than Westlife! Whenever I’ve had some funk, the technicians airways commend me for my taste in music
